It hasn't been posted here, so I guess either people havent heard about it, or just didnt post about it. There was a crash of an Air France flight in Toronto today, and, miraculously, over 300 people aboard escaped alive, and with very minor injuries. Apparently, from the news reports I heard, the pilot was attempting to land the plane at the airport in Toronto during a severe thunderstorm, and the crash occurred.
During the news report I heard, they had a retired pilot on, who said that the pilot of the jet made the wrong decision by attempting to land the jet in such violent weather, and should have either had the plane in a holding pattern until the weather passed, or diverted to another airport.
I experienced an incident like this once, being on a plane that landed in violent weather. In 1987, I was on a flight from New York to Atlanta with my father. We were going down to see the Braves, and the plane came in at Atlanta airport during a severe thunderstorm. The pilot proceeded with the landing anyway, and there was severe turbulence, and the plane dropped 1000 feet. Thankfully, the plane landed safely, and no one was hurt. It was scary for us, though.
Thank heavens no one in todays incident was hurt seriously. As I had a bad experience landing in a storm, and today's incident occurred, I thought appropriate that I post about it.
