Lets start a thread on the whole sport in general.There was a thread on Sherdog about your favorite dream matches,what are some of yours.Mine are the following,

I never thought about St. Perre/Franklin or Gracie/Penn but they would be great to see.I think BJ would take it to Royce only because he has better hands but the other fight would be to close to call.I think 2008 should be a great year for fights.What I dont like are the long intervals between title fights.The lightweight division I can see because of the Sherk situation,but what about the welterweights.I mean Quinton won the belt at 71,defended at 75,serra won at 69 and wouldnt have defended until 79?There is enough talent where there should be a title fight about every 4 months.IMO.

He was shooting TUF 6 with Matt Hughes. 🙂 And while there are enough good fighters at 170, the only real contenders right now are GSP, Hughes, Fitch and Parisyan and MAYBE Koschek. Everyone else just isn't of that calibre.

Sherk has been officially stripped.I am a Sherk fan and would have liked to see him keep it but the act is justified.The UFC really had to do it.This puts a lot more emphasis on UFC 80 now.Though,I would like to see Sherk can an immediate title shot against the winner of Penn/Stevenson.
 
I want to hear everyones thought on the Rampage/Griffin fight.Stylistically this is going to be a brawl.I see Rampage winning this fight but Forrest is gonna go down swingin'.Lets just hope the fight isnt 6 months from now.After hearing about it, I am really looking forward to seeing this fight.

He deserves the winner of Penn/Stevenson, but the fact is Dana White has been working his ass off to keep the sport clean. He deserves to have the belt taken away and he deserves the year suspension. Penn will still be champ when he gets back (and will be after their fight).

I'll say this outright. I hate Forrest Griffin. He's an average fighter who can take a lot of damage and caught a lucky break against Rua. He's hardly worthy of a title shot, let alone the 'top five' ranking he holds. One of two things will happen against Rampage. Either Rampage will land one big shot and he'll collapse (the Jardine fight) or he'll take it from Rampage for 25 minutes and lose the decision. Forrest Griffin vs. Rampage Jackson in my mind is Griffin being a punching bag that can bleed.

should be a good fight.Forrest has got to be flying high after beating Shogun and Rampage isn`t gonna fight not to lose.

either way....whoever wins is just gonna have to give the belt to Wand so....😛
 
Griffin is the only fighter that I think would be better off in a higher weiht bracket. Gonzaga if he slimmed down would be smaller than Liddell. Penn should never fight as a welterweight. Bisbing should be a middleweight

Griffin is 6'3 and walks around at 250. He can take a lot of punishmet, but offensively, he sucks.
 
I was never a big Griffin fan but he does make for an exciting fight.He has a block head and is willing to stay in the pocket and exchange.I see this being a really good fight.*Just confirmed Sherk will be fighting the winner of UFC 80 for the belt.

That's been confirmed on UFC.com. Which means, they'll fight for the belt some 6 - 8 months from now after the show's done milking the buildup. Which will actually help the 205 division. After a few big upsets, there's little order left in terms of who gets the shot at Rampage.

very true....

with all the new additions and recent upsets the division needs to get straightened out.

besides...Rampage wasn`t gonna fight until feb/march anyway,now we can look for him to fight in may/early june
 
There's a lot of straightening out to do in the UFC. 205 is a wreck after the additions and the upsets. 185 has two tiers of talent: Anderson Silva and everyone else. He'll be champion for a very long time. 170 had some stability until Serra got hurt. Now it may be GSP's division for a while. 155 will be Penn beating Stevenson, Sherk and Huerta, in that order. Pretty cut and dry. 265 has no clear contender and Couture retiring (again) won't help anything. As long as Sylvia doesn't get the belt, I'm happy.

You can't say it's not interesting though. The upsets have be key to half the fun this year in the UFC. Can't wait for next year.

205lbs. right now, should have Jardine and Alexander in a rematch and Evans and whoever knocked Alexander out. But Evans and Ortiz will probably be next. If Machido(sp) wins his next one, he will be a contender.
 
Tito Ortiz is no longer with the UFC. His contract expired after his draw with Evans. They may be re-negotiating for an extention, but as of right now, Tito is not under contract with the UFC.

No worries. Tito's been such a fixture in the UFC, it's hard to imagine him ever going anywhere else. I'm sure he'll be back.

I hope not. I never liked him. He kept ducking Liddell until someone beat him, then he got in the ring and got his ass beat by Couture. He talks big but has only beat an over the hill Shamrock in the last few years. Griffin doesn't count (it was a bad decision). The UFC is better without him.
 
As much as Tito is a loud mouth,he does make for an interesting fight.He has been around for a looong time.You have to give him that respect.I would love to see him fight a number of LHW's, mostly Wanderlai or Shogun.*Just read on Sherdog that Arlovski is waiting out his UFC contract to fight in another organization.As much as I want to see Arlovski fight in the UFC,I would love to see him go to M-1 and fight Fedor.*Stated on MMaWeekly,Couture IS waiting out his UFC contract to fight Fedor.The NYE event with Fedor is gonna be huge IMO.I am looking forward to seing him fight again and also seeing what skills he brings into the ring.Apparently,UFC fighters are not happy with the organization.F@*k it all,the NYE weekend is gonna be great for MMA......
