Neil Diamond ... right on Giant, major talent, major talent.
Wrote them AND sang them I think. Great stuff.
One of his pieces rebounds inside my skull as I type, something about 'Lady, can't place it. I've got the tune bouncing around in that big hollow spot between my ears but I can't put any words to it.
However, the 'KING' (Elvis) preceeded Neil and still rules.
Now if we're talking about skill and technique my argument is a toss up: Maynard James Keenan from Tool, the man has perfect pitch, amazing range, and uncanny control. Plus he can do a long pissed off controlled scream without blowing his voice out (let's see Britney or Justin try that one). The second one would be Mike Patton whose been in numerous projects (Faith No More being the most well known). He can do all of the above but his pitch isn't quite as good. However, he's alot more experimental so it more then makes up for it.
Hey, all I know is given the choice, I would rather hear "Living for the City" by Stevie Wonder over "Candy Man" by Sammy Davis, Jr. (not to take away anything from Sammy, a huge talent)
Neil Diamond, extemely talented, as well
Freddie Mercury (from Queen, ditto)
And I.....yes I, as in "I don't give a f*ck what anybody else thinks", also put Tom Jones and K.D. Lang on MY list of favorite singers.
Karen Carpenter
Kenny Rogers
Garth Brooks (not a big country fan, but those two singers deserve recognition in my opinion)
Darren Hayes
Freddie Mercury (I'll echo that one as well)
Dan Folgelburg (oh just bite me! He's a hell of a singer!)
Sandi Patti
Barbara Streisand
Emmylou Harris
Linda Ronstadt
Roy Orbison
Elvis Presley
The Judds(especially Wynonna)
Martina McBride
Judy Garland
Brian Wilson(The Beach Boys)
Clay Aiken
Etta James
Faith Hill
Karen Carpenter
Patsy Cline(my personal idol)
Patty Loveless
I like Johnny Cash, but not for "I walk the line". Remember "A Boy Named Sue?" Loved that song.
Others who I think are great singers:
Karen Carpenter (what a tragic waste)
Freddie Mercury (another unfortunate tragedy)
Stevie Wonder (is a pattern emerging?🙂 )Who said he had no classics??
Luther Vandross
Sandi Patti
Barbara Streisand (without the diva'isms)
Tamyra Gray (the one who should've won AmerIdol 1)
-Reuben and Clay (up and coming talent too good for american idol but never would've gotten a contract because of thier appeareance. Good luck to them both.
Yolanda Adams
Vickie Winans
Robert Palmer (RIP)
Jeff Buckley (some women can't even sing that high)
James Dean Bradfield (Manic Street Preachers)
Thom Yorke (Radiohead)
Nina Simone
Stevie Wonder (sorry pervert, you're the minority)
Curtis Mayfield
Aretha Franklin
