Okay, anyone else beginning to realize that we're screwing with our planet maybe a tinsy bit too bloody much? Here in Cayuga county in NY State of the USA, it's in the lower 50's and there's frost on my lover and I's home.

Thing is, yesterday (and most of today) it was in the upper 90's, hot, humid, and fetid (like a bloody tropical jungle)! Keep in mind this is NY State in SEPTEMBER FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! Here's where things go from crazy to WHOA NELLIE that's INSANE! Tomorrow is supposed to be in the lower 60's during the DAY TIME! 90 degree daytime weather to LOWER 60 degree daytime weather!

This is crazy pants people!

Unfortunately, crazy swings and wild extremes are going to become more and more common unless something is done pronto to stabilize global warming.

Even more unfortunately, as with the economy, the damage has been so severe and over such a prolonged time (and done mainly by those who don't really give a rat's ass for the consequences as long as they get what they want) that it will take the rest of my working life to repair- assuming that the political will can be found to A) recognize that there is a problem, but then more importantly B) to actually DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT for more than a single term of the House of Representatives.
Since that august body is at least 60% filled with members who believe that dinosaurs lived on our planet at the same time as humans, I really doubt we can get started on either global climate change OR the economy until 2014 at the earliest... and that's if we remember to vote next year........

We can't really do anything about global warming until a financially reasonable alternative to our current economic game plan hits the scene. We won't really develop one until we start putting more funding into scientific research into relevant fields.

Unfortunately, given how capitalism works, nobody wants to invest in something that isn't likely to give them any immediate returns. In fact, there's a pretty good chance that research into these fields wouldn't result in any cash back for investors, and they know that.

It's a lot easier for them to pretend that this is the Earth's natural climate behavior and continue investing into fossil fuels.

Which is why govt. research & regulation is pretty much the only way it will get done on a large enough scale to have an effect. And that will need to be a world government. Time for the Federation to become a thing in real life.
Alas, there is a certain group (coughtherepublicanpartycough) that is not only against the idea of surrendering any of our sovereignty to the horrible, French-like foreigners (because they might stop us from bombing or torturing people from other countries when we deem it fun to do so), but also believe on religious grounds that we have complete dominion over the planet and anything that we do to it is completely OK. Also, that the weather going nuts is all part of God's plan for the Apocalypse.
Which brings up the "world government" idea again. If fundamentalist Christians believe that a "World-Gov" led by the AntiChrist is part of God's plan, and will lead to Armageddon, which then leads to Jesus' return to Earth- shouldn't they be wholeheartedly supporting one world government, instead of fighting the very hint of anything like it? In fact, shouldn't they be voting "AntiChrist For President 2016"? (Of course, I realize that many of them think the AntiChrist was elected in 2008, and re-elected in 2012...but I put that down to their fear of a black man that is not doing menial labor, but instead is actually in power over them...)

Yeah.

Unfortunately, it seems that divided we cannot stand as a species. If we want to resolve any of the biggest world issues, we either need to figure out how to work together, or somehow merge into some form of global authority. Neither option seems very probable in the foreseeable future.

As scary as one big conspiracy-filled government sounds, it could hardly be much worse than dozens of conspiracy-filled governments, some of which are extremely unstable.

But, the thought of all of our governments and societies merging successfully is so ridiculously outlandish that we may as well label it as science fiction for now.

Emissions have to be capped at the source (which can be done) and existing CO2 has to be purged from the atmosphere (doable with the political and economic will to develop and deploy the technology). The will won't emerge until the crisis is already deep and no longer deniable, by which time it will be that much harder (though not impossible) to repair the damage.

If damage is indeed being done it is the fault of corporations and not individuals. CO2 is vital to our planet, it's what helps our vegetation grow and strive. Who owns the air we breathe? Would you want to pay a tax on that air? This is the biggest scam since the war on terrorism. They give us an invisible enemy that is not only impossible to defeat but one that doesn't exist and everyone falls for it.The government and media are fear mongers and prey upon the public's paranoia. It helps if the public are gullible enough to swallow this garbage. 40,000 scientists have come out against the theory of global warming and the Al Gore hoax, but believe what you will.

Do you want to know what happens when Co2 emissions go above and beyond what the planet can handle?

Look at Venus. Venus isn't called Earth's sister planet for nothing. Venus is much hotter than Mercury (which is closer to the sun), simply because Venus has an atmosphere that is SATURATED is Co2 from volcanic eruptions that litter the planet's surface.

You don't have to look very far to see a real-life example of what will happen to Earth. It's already happened in our neighborhood. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus

Venus has an extremely dense atmosphere, which consists mainly of carbon dioxide and a small amount of nitrogen.
Venus is a terrestrial planet and is sometimes called Earth's "sister planet" because of their similar size, gravity, and bulk composition.
Venus is by far the hottest planet in the Solar System.
The CO2-rich atmosphere, along with thick clouds of sulfur dioxide, generates the strongest greenhouse effect in the Solar System, creating surface temperatures of at least 462 °C (864 °F). This makes the Venusian surface hotter than Mercury's, which has a minimum surface temperature of −220 °C (−364.0 °F) and maximum surface temperature of 420 °C (788 °F), even though Venus is nearly twice Mercury's distance from the Sun and thus receives only 25% of Mercury's solar irradiance. The surface of Venus is often described as hellish. This temperature is higher than temperatures used to achieve sterilization.

Global warming isn't a theory any more than Gravity or Evolution is. We've already seen it happen.

That article is possibly the largest collection of assertions and conjecture stuffed into a five minute read that I have ever seen.
Not once do they support anything they say with actual evidence. They only make assertions throughout the entire article, and reference a few blow-hard scientists and a couple of books.

But, that's not what bothered me about this. What bothered me about your post is that you didn't even bother to do any real research to defend your position. You simply made a google search, skimmed a few articles, and copy-pasted the one that fit your position the best.

Do you know how hard it is to make a bunch of references, valid or not, to defend a position? Not very.

http://solar-center.stanford.edu/sun-on-earth/glob-warm.html

A very well-written and well-referenced article detailing the effects and causes of global warming. They have extensive references from national organizations like NASA, and several federal departments.

Despite that, I still don't have any real evidence to support the claim. The article might be factually correct, or it might not be.

But, I don't need an article to support my claim. I supported it just fine in my previous post by citing an actual example of global warming. Co2 is Co2, whether or not it's made by man. It behaves the exact same way.

Ah, the United Nations, I'll have to believe it now. The same bunch that stood back and watched the people of Rwanda get hacked to death with machetes without lifting a finger or wasting a bullet. Isn't it a coincidence that this very same organization just happens to be among the worst groups of eugenicists on the planet. I wonder which scumbags they paid off or intimidated into coming up with the graphs and phony numbers in that so-called study. I'm sorry, but I don't have the same faith in their agenda or the pushing of propaganda and alarmism down our throats by them and the media as you do. It is nice to see that you are still here though and I hope you are doing well.

Mmkay. Well, that clears things up a bit. I can see that the chance for reasonable discussion has flown the coop.

And for the record, I don't put faith in much. Certainly nothing this big.

You don't have to have faith, you just have to accept the facts. Mainstream science now has a 97% confidence (up from 90% in 2000) that MAN, not nature, is responsible for the recent increase in rate of global climate change. (Which is a much more subtle concept than "global warming".) (And no, I don't have the source for that at hand, but you can check the AP wire story and see the same numbers- if I misquoted I apologize, but 97% is the number I recall.) Just like mainstream science has a 100% confidence that life evolved on this planet as opposed to being spontaneously/divinely created, and that humans evolved from other related species rather than being a separate, special creation.

The 'scientists' that deny man's role in climate change are the same ones that have an ideological commitment to the status quo, and to those industrialists who don't care what we leave for the future as long as they get theirs today. Is this a sweeping generalization? I admit that it is- but justified in this case. Their 'science' is just as cherry-picked as the 'science' behind "intelligent design" (which is creation theory by any other name). It serves an agenda.

If we continue denying and ignoring our role in climate change, and not only doing nothing but actively making it worse, then Miami will be underwater by the time my daughter is my age and the coastlines will be gone by 2100. Think about that. We can stop that from happening, if we do something now; but the chance will be gone sooner than we realize. Historians will look at us as the generation that failed our entire planet.😛issed

I applaud your efforts, Lee, but this isn't a matter of proving or disproving at this point.

It's about what he - and they - do and do not want to believe. Despite the evidence, despite the testimonies, and despite all of the real-time examples that have been shown, they still refuse to acknowledge it as a thing. Having faith is great, but having blind faith on any matter invariably leads to ignorance.

In the end, it doesn't matter how much proof we have of it. Some people will stubbornly refuse to acknowledge some things as truth. There are people out there that don't believe in gravity because the Theory of Gravity is after all, just a theory.

I can't believe people actually believe in this left wing bullshit! Even many of the sky is falling, chicken little, global warming, climate change, global cooling (I remember the 70's), global warming, climate change, whatever, are now more then ever skeptics. Especially since the warning rates have slowed considerably in the past 16 years. You might want to take a look at Messengers before you look at the Message.

If the messengers didn't all have PHDs in their respective fields, I might agree with you.

But hey, I sure could be wrong. Maybe all those university grads are just spinning their wheels, and those right-wing talk show hosts had it right all along. :rolleyes

It's not worth trying to talk rationally with someone who's so obsessed he's using a tea party avatar on a fetish site.

Besides, decades of work by thousands of scientists is nothing next to some talking points he picked up from Glenn Beck. All PhDs are all just part of the great liberal conspiracy. Anyone who says different has a UN-implanted mind-control chip.

Seriously, why bother trying? You're not going to get through.

I'm more worried about the flood of radioactive fluid spewing from that broken nuclear power plant in Japan. If we don't get that fixed soon, we won't be around to worry about climate change.

I agree, we should be far more worried about that and the tons of DU that have been and continue to be used in our munitions to contaminate the middle east, it's people and our boots on the ground. These zombie cultists could be given all the information in the world by the top scientists in the field of global warming to refute their claims, but if they refuse to read, watch, listen and learn, what is the point? Let them be lead around by political hacks spewing their propaganda through the media and avoiding the important issues. They'll find out the hard way that this is really all about scare tactics, less freedom, higher taxes and nothing more. Unfortunately, they will drag the rest of us down with them. Btw, I have no political affiliation to any of these scumbags here in Canada, I don't vote. I've done my part so screw 'em.

Come on, guys.

Everyone knows that man-made radiation can't affect the planet. Don't listen to that media hype. :rolleyes

Recently in my area a nature reserve was engulfed in an inferno. Bushfires are common here and while our trees may just be exploding from spontaneous combustion, we're positive this one was caused by arsonists as it apparently started as a grass fire in three different locations.

I'm pretty sure some people are more fucked up than mother nature will ever be.

Awww...I'm sorry hun. Your residence didn't suffer damage did it? Do you know anyone to suffered burns? If so, they have my sympathies (being burned is a terrible thing to suffer).

I'm pretty sure some people are more fucked up than mother nature will ever be.

Considering it's people who are fucking mother nature (what with greenhouse gases and such), yeah, I'd have to agree with ya.
