Does anybody have or know a program for making screencaps from videos and movies.

Ive got a ton of celebrity sole videos, and i would like to make screencaps, i will even post them on here if anyone know's or have's any program (software) that i could use?

That's a sore point with me at the moment. I have jsut bought a piece of hardware + software called Dazzle Movie Compressor 2006 from Pinnacle Systems. You are suposed to be able to Play video onto your computer from your VCR, edit the movie and then have it encoded as a DVD, then burn it onto disk.

Only problem is that the support system on the Pinnacle Systems site is really miserable. The program does not recognise of itself that it needs an update or patch. The helplines are grossly overloaded and under-staffed, and the site itself is prone to crashes, downloads do not work properoly and so on. Big frustration!!

To my knowledge, there is no simple downloadable program to decode video from a VCR into digital format. You need some kind of adapter like the above, and in additionm either an external encoder or related software.

They will know at your local computer dealers - provided they is not as inept as the above site managers.

sorry my mistake, i meant ive already got videos on my computer, i just wanna make them into screencaps. sorry, my bad.

john_q,

I have always used Paint Shop Pro to make screen caps. I still use
version 3.12, the first 32-bit version put out years ago. Just select
"Capture/Object" or "Capture/Client Area" from the menu, pause the
clip where you want it, and press the user-defined hotkey. Sometimes
trying to capture from WMP or RealPlayer doesn't work--all you get is
a black window. In that case, if it's a .MPG, .WMV, or .AVI file, I load
the clip using PicaView, another older program for viewing images and
some video content. One or the other will generally work. I hope that
this is of some help to you.

Thankyou very much MistressValerie and Midnightman, it helped a lot. 😀

I love Webattack; unlike Download.com, they actually test everything that they offer for download to ensure that it's free of spyware and adware. I have gotten a lot of nice, free utilities there, and I highly recommend the site to anyone who is looking for specialty software 🙂
