Moving advice

My friend asked me to move in with her when she finds an APT, but I'm not sure. If I stay at home, I'd be able to save more $ for a car and I could ask my parents for rides whenever I needed one. If I moved out, I'd have to wait until she had to go somewhere to leave. Somedays my parents are bearable, others they aren't. Anyone have any advice from when they moved?

If I did move in with her, I'd only have to pay rent because her dad is paying the utilities.

Don't forget about phone, cable, internet and food...the first three of which often have security amounts tacked on for the start-up. Those four add up as well. The fact that you're asking sounds like you aren't entirely sure about moving. That's a suggestion to you right there.

One thing I did that you might consider as another option. Set up an agreement with your folks to pay them room & board. It can be less than what you'd pay elsewhere, but a fair amount. The agreement would be that they would put the majority of that money into an account for you but that you wouldn't have access to it until a certain time. This would be more secure and less expensive for you than moving out. But, it also gives you a feel of paying bills. The biggest plus is that when you really feel ready to move, you'd have a chunk of money there for a car and/or initial expenses of the move. It would also help your folks out with expenses that you are now legally of age to be responsible for.
