aside from the rampant stupidity and evidence of human incompetence becoming more abundant day by day in the news

http://www.lokitorrent.com/

i don't understand the economic america and why it is so hard on mp3 traders and movie piraters, yet it is rather lenient on rapists and murderers

it's bad, but only if it damages the economy!

so theoretically, we'd be hard on murder and rape if either of those damaged the economy

and that would bring me to that professor guy who is under threat of being fired

is this considered politics? i don't know, but as long as it doesn't damage the economy i am safe

I may be in the minority here, but I can see why it is wrong to download movies for free without any consent from the owners Our very own Tickler In Black doesn't like when peple post clips of his when they don't have his permission They do own the rights to the movies/music

As far as the music goes I can see sites where they charge for downloading a song That way you are not paying for a whole CD/cassette if you only want one or two songs

As far as being harder on ilegal downloaders etc I guess it is easier to catch them in the act than a rapist/murder But that is just a guess on my part

don't get me wrong, i'm against piracy as much as the next person, but it kind of wounds me that we pay more attention to the financial crises that happen than to something more humanitarian

the first thing to come out of 9/11 was "oh no what will happen to the ECONOMY" and it was just funny

I read this in the Dallas paper this week. A man got arrested recently for shooting his wife. Turns out, he shot another wife to death back in 1983, too. He got 8 years. Shot her while she was on the phone with police, did 8 years then got out and did the same thing again less than 10 days ago.

I read about a local shoplifter who got 13 years. Well, there ya go.

And you know those Enron guys, who ruined a LOT of people's financial futures, will be getting jail terms..... for less than 13 years. You just know!

It's the regular in-between "just folks" people that seem to get hit with the justice stick hardest of all when it comes to crime, especially financial.

Well, not exactly the first thing, as memory serves!

Although in a free market capitalist country, this IS a real concern as far as how the nation runs. All the money is now going into the was and more responsibility is going to the states, but in TX, $$$ is being spent all the local homeland security things while healthcare and schooling is big time going down the drain. And since American Airlines and Southwest are both based here, people needed thse programs more than ever since people are flying less.... so jobs are lost. And there's all that high pirced Saudi oil that goes into the planes.

I look at piracy the same way that Tom Petty looks at the music industry... "As we celebrate mediocrity, all the boys upstairs wanna see... how much you'll pay for what you used to get for free."

Piracy isn't a big deal here, but it is in China. The fact that the music industry can still charge more for a soundtrack of a movie than the movie DVD costs itself is proof enough that recording companies still have plenty of revenue coming in. As for the MPAA... who gives a fuck? Do you really think these movie studios are hurting from a few downloads when they can continue to afford to pay big shot actors and actresses millions of dollars? Never feel sympathy for corporations, because they sure as hell would never do the same for the common man. The laws you guys have been discussing are proof in their own right that the system is run by these same greedy corporate bastards....

As for the professor that I believe you're referring to, morgan, politics are definitely behind it. You're referring to the Univ. of Colorado professor that wrote that controversial essay about 9/11, correct? I think he comes off as being rather extremist in his views (and a bit stupid), but he has every right to speak his mind, regardless of how crazy he might sound. Then again, the college also has the right to fire him, even if it's over petty politics.

i was referring to this thread needing to be put in politics and religion

anyway, people actually did pay for music "back in the day", back in the baroque period where composers and performers were hired out by patrons to perform privately for them, blah blah. of course, this wasn't necessarily the case with the two eras of music before it, or when dinosaurs made their own music

that's pretty much the case of expenses of production and recording studio time and whatnot, and all the enhancements people put on their music with electric fart noises as the bass line, etc

i'm not saying i agree with the professor's approach, but he probably has something on his mind that's just not coming across correctly because people are pretending to be sentimental over tsunami victims like when that one radio show cast got removed for the tsunami song which i thought was hilarious

i don't really care though, because american soldiers don't even get half the pay that stock traders and celebrities get, and american soldiers work 1000000x harder than any cubicle sitter

and if you think that's bs, sign up for the army yourself and prove me wrong, and i'll laugh when you get chaptered out for "shin splints"

my real worry is that corporations like mpaa and even tecmo who recently filed a lawsuit against 'ninjahacker.net' have the most absurd arguments, even if they do have valid points at times, but they try to make themselves almost look like they're defending the american pride, it is like "we're fighting the GOOD fight, against THIEVES", try having those so-called corporations raid the marines and army for mp3 and movie trading and we'll show them something about tactical raids and ambushes. they're picking on little wimpy lanky guys who might be in the wrong, but are still wimpy and they (the corporations) are making it look like it's something intimidating to the rest of the pirating world, and that's their version of the american pride

if they want to show american pride, deliver us some free frickin' beer, and i'm talking to you especially, anheuser busch

we're not trying to be paranoid, we're trying to excuse our perversion with the homeland security thing, just like how people in the "tickling for kids" thread down at that tt forum are trying to justify their little closet pedophilia deal

gen.zod, it shouldn't be about what is easier, as i addressed earlier. the fact that we only do what's easier is bs, because we're lazy douchebags that way, and that's why a lot of people are obese from mcdonalds and then they try to blame mcdonalds for making them fat, and then there's smokers who blame cigarettes for giving them lung cancer like they were too retarded to figure out "hey, smoking is bad, and i don't find any academic purpose of smoking!" and the only argument they could give is "oh they didnt tell me this would happen!!!" good grief common sense flew out the window there

i think people without common sense by the age of 18 should be rated then eviscerated personally as they only contribute to the downfall and babying of society

but upon sharing tib's stuff, that brings us to fair use. often people misconstrue fair use policies, such as with "i bought it so i can do whatever i want with it!!! as long as not making money off of it myself" which is already explained in license agreements ALL THE TIME, and not only that but in the fair use articles down at http://www.copyright.gov/ as well and i blame this on human ignorance and failure to not be lazy or have common sense

for music and movies, anything entertainment wise, js bach wasn't really into worrying about it himself, but it's always about who gets credit for what, not for what good it is to watch or listen to, especially nowadays with the crappy movies that aren't worth watching + crappy music that isn't worth listening to

so we worry about "who has the rights to make moneys off something that people take for granted with their damn ipods????????" not "does this sound good? ok." and that's why we flashed britney spears every now and then to remind us how cute she was in that school uniform, because music seemed to need that kind of personality to keep us from getting too bored of music by itself. thanks, mtv. fuckers

i have not ran out of rant juice yet, but i will stop now

I can see the lawsuits now:

"- What? McDonalds makes me fat?"
"-Cigaretes make me choke and cough?"
"-The military is gonna make me work hard?"

Add politicians and governing leaders to that above list. How we love to be capitalists, but hate our entertainers or business leaders for being ones, too. But they simply work within the system that is in place. The (very) well paid politicos get (very) well paid CREATING the system.

As far as fair use goes, so much stuff here on the TMF alone is in violation of copyright laws if one wanted to get stringent and hardnosed about it. And I know that my "Treatis on Tickling" document I wrote about 1993 or '94 or so has been floating out there on the Internet. Bugs me slightly, but I knew I was never gonna get rich off'n it. TIB certainly has the right to protect his investment; the rumbling's I've heard on this forum, though, what irks people on this site is not that he wants people to remove his material from their sites, but when they try to legally sell their older videos off at Amazon, Ebay, etc. and he has the selling halted, which is also legal. There's this legal cross-purpose grey area there. Garth Brooks 10 or 12 years ago tried to get used CD stores to stop selling his old used CDs, but was met with failure on that attempt.

What's funny for me personally about file sharing is that back when I did it, it either involved A.) stuff that was incredibly hard to find, rare, or downright unavailable on CD. I'd be willing to SPEND the money if what I was looking for was was readily available.

and B.) most of the time once I downloaded a song or two I liked from an album or artist, I usually ended up going out and buying the album or getting it for a gift, so a few free songs for me still got money into the music company's pocket.

It's funny you should mention ninjahacker... My brother was a contributor on that site. We are in the modding business, and Tecmo can go blow itself for all we care. We were sad to see the site taken down, but it just shows that even a highly successful video game company is greedy enough to push around a bunch of people who were big fans of the Dead or Alive series. Plenty of us had legit copies of the game, but we just enjoyed making new outfits for the characters. Of course, Tecmo uses the same logic as the RIAA and Microsoft. They feel that if they have the power to do as they please, then why not imprison and fine a few harmless enthusiasts? In the end, however, it will be Tecmo that pays the most dearly from a drop in popularity due to its new aggressive image, and due to countless angry hackers that might just decide to wreak havoc on Tecmo's official website....

Wha?! Ok... um... I like the tt, but I didn't know they had a section for that.... *full body shudder*

Amen to that...
