Listen.......I know this is all for free the TMF, so if this is a big hassle, please disregard. I know this has been broached before......and there are perfectly good reasons as to why NOT to have a separate Music Forum.

Don't our music threads clutter up GD? I must say, I HOLD BACK on adding to or creating new music threads because I don't want to overwhelm this part of the Forum!

On a recent thread about people's TMF habits, I was surprised to see how many people incorporated "checking out the music threads" as part of their regimen! Did you see that? I think more people would contribute music threads if there was a separate Forum.

If it's a pain in the time-consuming, headache-inducing ass to create, then most definitely skip it. I'd volunteer to moderate it but I'm the worst person to do it! I'm the one who needs moderation! But....most of the time, it's pretty innocuous, even when we (or should i say I) get a little aggro, how bad could it get? I don't think it would NEED much/any moderation. What are we going to argue about? Who's better, Tupac or Biggie?

I volunteer to even go back over the last few months, or the last thirty pages or so of GD, and fish out the music threads to be moved. You can totally use me as a workhorse for that or anything else, I'd be more than happy to do it!

To ask any more of Jeff, HMS, or Myriads......I almost feel like how dare I. If it's as easy as, like, starting a blog on blogspot, then that's all I'm asking. If it's something where you have to spend a protracted amount of time setting it up, then I rescind my request! But I can just see it......can't you?.....right above the P&R Forum, where it should be....... in big bold letters: "TMF Music Forum"..... yeah..... yeah!!!!!! YEAH! 🙂

Whilst I admire the enthusiasm, I am personally sceptical about the idea of a separate Music subforum.

The good thing about the General Discussion board is its diversity of subject matter, and the fact that it leads to people being exposed to topics that they might not ordinarily seek out. I would worry that a music subforum might become like a little club where people feel as though they have to possess a certain level of enthusiasm or amount of knowledge in order to have something worthwhile to contribute.

There’s also the question of to what extent do we want to compartmentalize topics of discussion. If we have a music subforum, who’s to say we shouldn’t a film subforum? And then a history subforum, a showbiz subforum, a nature subforum… and so on. For example, I’ve created a couple of film-based threads in the past which went down quite well. Would they have had as many contributors if they had existed in their own designated area of the forum? I’m not sure.

Apologies if that sounds negative. And of course I could be in the minority with that opinion, who knows.

Cheers. 🙂

The things you cite are why we are unlikely to see a music forum. I don't claim to speak for Jeff, but some of the subforums you mention have been suggested over the years and been veoted, his reason being it would tend to Balkanize the forum.
Look at Discussion Groups. From what I can tell, it gets little attention. I think General Discussion is fine for music threads. If the powers that be feel those threads have gotten out of hand I'm sure they will let us know. 😉

As long as people don't think we're cluttering up GD with nothing but mostly music threads, I'm fine with it, that's pretty much what I've always been told.

I considered making a software recommendations thread but then I had the spell of "this is a porn forum".

Haha - Rrright! Example, actually, even just some topics about Cakewalk Sonar could already consume an entire page, but what the heck, some __% of TMF population are only after the /w0nking/ materials.

So I vote for no subforum. The sighting of music threads on GD makes TMF cool already.

Ive asked for a music forum for like a decade 🙁

I know you have! Me too! I thought I'd try again. I mean, it seems like GD is now basically a Music Forum, with special guest non-music threads peppered in, so I was afraid we were getting obnoxious about it. I refrain from posting as much as I would - ala how some people post alot on the Silly Stuff Forum - or making new threads because I don't want to clutter up this section. But that's cool, because.....

I guess the people have spoken! It's not the mods telling me no......it's the people I thought would contribute to it!!! Well, ok then.......I say everyone, make more music threads! Vanillphant always makes great ones (although I recently screwed up one of them, as usual, sorry buddy). I have had ideas for new threads for a long time and I've been holding back! No longer!

Yeah i mean music forum or no music forum, im still lovin all the threads. Keep it up.

Thanks for all the contributions The Internet and Vanillaphant.

If there were a music forum it would probably be my favorite (though sport would be a close second.) That being said I am cool with it being in the GD. As long as we can all keep sharing some cool tunes with each other I am down.

Actually, the music threads are better than listening to the frikkin' radio these days.

Yea, I look at the image-line forums for FL studio, there's all sorts of stuff going on....

Speaking of which.....just finished up making a gabber kick with 3xosc.....it's amazing how much compression, distortion, and equalization goes into just one element of dance music

Soundgoodizer saves my ass every time I'm in doubt. 🙂

Nah but really, there's some freeware out there that's pretty sweet.

Edit: idk, I don't really want to destroy the purpose of the forum but there's been so many branches into other areas that it's almost as much of a life forum as it is a fetish forum.

But I do have other places for music tho.

Not quite sure why I've been singled out here - think I'm averaging about 2 music threads a year! lol But I'm flattered all the same!

Look forward to seeing what threads pop up in the future. 🙂

Ain't that the truth. My car stereo has two presets. KLBJ-AM for local news, weather, and traffic, and KMFA-FM, a local nonprofit station for classical music. If I'm not listening to one of those I grab the CD case.

Big talk radio guy here. Other than that it's the optical media.

Ha, I was bringing you up just because I was talking to/about you/your comment. But you did have that "Great American Songbook" thread which I need to find and resurrect!I'll add thanks to Bugman & Chicago, who created many of the great threads/contribute to them. And rdhd. And people like Bator and General Zod, Bohemianne, CD, et al, who contribute.

I agree, I listen to threads when I'm working and I'm taking too long to pick out something to listen to. If it's taking me too long, I just switch to a thread, voila, back to work!
