How many people here make music using traditional or electronic instruments? How many have made recordings in an analog or digital studio?

Me, I've put productions together first in the analog studio of a radio station and later on with my own "desktop studio". I use Adobe Audition (that's a multitracker and recording application) and I just got a copy of FL Studio (a loop- and composition-oriented production tool). I've used Audition to make sound collages and to transfer things like family recordings to CD (I love doing audio restoration). Haven't done much with FL studio yet.

I've recorded at home before, but it was incredibly cheapo. The reality of being poor. I took a Digitech RP100a and went from the headphone jack to the line in jack of my computer and recorded into Audacity. Made some decent stuff.

I play guitar mainly. Though I do own a Wurlitzer organ. I play a little bass and drums, but don't own my own instruments. I just have lots of guitars.

Audacity is a decent basic sound editor. I've used the Linux version of it. Freeware has certainly come a long way from the pathetic joke that it was in the mid-90's. (Microsoft Windows (which I use), now that's still a pathetic joke!)

Glad you kept on keeping on. Dedication and talent are IMO more important than budget. Lots of musicians have made great music with less-than- state-of-the-art gear. There's this guy R. Stevie Moore. He's been making recordings in his bedroom since the late 1960's, originally on equipment meant for taping albums!

I've always been happy with Audacity. I miss having a licensed copy of Peak around, though. That's damn good software.

As for Windows, the punchline was the end of the 9x line. Modern versions are perfectly fine. Especially the post-XP ones. Server 03 and on.

Used to play some musical instruments and a serious user of Cakewalk for a long while. One sample audio of my eeky voice and playing is archived at TMF Radio.
