I went to visit my mom today (still there, actually), and I noticed that my favorite cat, Stormy, was drooling a lot. After close inspection, it seems her lower left tooth (the pointy one, don't know what it's called) is loose, and it's outside of her mouth on an angle, kind of the way a baby tooth hangs by it's roots when it's about to come out.

She shys away from anything that gets close to her mandible, but otherwise, she seems fine - she's just as lovey a lap-cat as ever (but the drool is a little weird). She doesn't seem to be in too much (if any) pain.

I know this needs to be addressed quickly, so my mother is taking her to the vet in the morning, but is this something we should be overly worried about, or is it just a misfortunate happenstance?

Actually, drooling is a perfectly "normal" symptom of a cat showing signs of mouth/tooth problems/pain.

Your cat is just doing what is par for the course. You have pin pointed the issue and taken steps to rectify the problem, so there are no worries. The drooling will stop when she has been attended to by a vet.

She'll be thirteen in April. I just thought it might be something serious, but I guess it's normal for a cat with a busted tooth.

...

Pay close attention at the vet appointment. If they mention gingivitis or stomatitis, there are additional measure you'll want to take.

aww poor thing.. as long as she is eatting.. waite to see what the vet says

Dental disease is common in cats. It sounds like the tooth is "bad" - or at the least, loose/infected. If it's infected, it's an easily remedied situation of an extraction. Wait to see what your vet finds. And keep us posted... I'll be happy to help translate anything. And while I obviously can't diagnose your kitty, I can tell you my experience with different conditions if you do get a diagnosis.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll make sure to find out what's going on first thing in the morning.
