I, your old pal Double T, have made it my mission to get myself, and the somewhat illustrious, and semi permiable q-ball, to N.E.S.T. next year. I'm doing this now, because I believe it will take much planning ahead. I have hotel money. I'll send away for some health help aids from the Dr. Leonard's catalog. I have other funds for food, etc. Here's the catch...transportation. I am thinking of hiring an SUV, maybe, since q and I need our wheelchairs, or an ambulette service, although I'm not sure they will even go to PA. Flying is out. I lost the ability to navigate airports years ago. Amtrack? Does Amtrack go anywhere next year's N.E.S.T. will be held?

(The windup, and here comes the pitch!)

Going my way?

Is there anyone on L.I. who could help us out on this transportation deal. I I did rent an SUV, We'd also need a driver. I never had a liceince, and q's has expired, and it's been too long since he last drove, anyhow. Amtrack is a possibility, but where does it go? Also, if anyone has any beter ideas, they are more than welcome! I'd like to go to at least one of these gatherings, and, unless someone plans one on L.I., I think this might be our best chance. So, there you have it. My quest, and my request (Pun intended). Any help woud be deeply appreciated. Thank for listening! Happy trails!

Ok, I am throwing someone else's name out there but I have a "little feeling" he might help you guys out. USATKLR lives on Long Island and is about a nice a guy as they come. He'd help you guys out I bet...

I hope to show up at Nest as well. I live in Lancaster, so it would be a bit far and backtracking for me to pick you guys up and bring you to Philly. You asked about Amtrak. They have service from Penn Station Manhattan to 30th St station in Philly, and then one can connect to surburban Philly train stations. I've done that many times. The train ride from Penn to 30th St takes about 75-80 mins, and then probably another half hour into the Philly burbs. I'm not exactly sure where Nest is held, but it is likely that there should be a way for you to negotiate and find a train from 30th St station in Philly to a place close to where Nest is. As for your wheelchairs, Iam fairly certain that Amtrak provides Ramps, and special accomadations for wheelchairs. My suggestion would be for you to contact Amtrak through either their website, or by phone, tell them your situation, and talk to someone who can assist you. Iam almost positive that they can assist you with the wheelchair issues, and services for such.
I hope this helped. Good Luck. Hope to see you guys at Nest next year.

One final thing: Your best bet, I think, if you could negotiate such, would be to take the LIRR from your location on L I into Penn Station. To my knowledge, even if you started on Amtrak from LI, you would have to change at Penn Station to get the Philly train anyway, as I dont think Amtrak has any service from LI connecting to Philly. One usually has to change at the big stations, in NY and Philly, and get a local train. When I go to NY from Lancaster, for example, I take a train which has local stops into Philly, and then catch a direct express train to NY. You can call Amtrak to check exact schedules, but this is how I've always done it.
