Hello hello everyone! I thought I'd post the history for the Tickle RP I might be hosting, if I have the time and people are interested enough in it. It took awhile to develop, because for me personally, I have a hard time just making a story and throwing some ticklish elements into it. I wanted there to be a good reason for tickling to be mainstream, to be common practice. I also wanted it to be unique, which I'm not sure it is yet. But, I thought I'd drop it by you all and see what you thought. Enjoy the read!
In the year 1230, the world was thrown into chaos as the magical creatures known as the Sylthuu entered our plane from their own. Powerful and vicious, they tore through the citizens of both nations without pause or resistance. They were an unstoppable force of pure destruction, and it looked as if the world would be wiped out. A powerful wizard, known as Drek'Thul, held off their attacks with the combined forces of his own unmatched magical prowess and his retinue of skilled wizards, their own power vast. They repelled wave after wave, and finally Drek'Thul managed to push them back, giving the nation of Ghulinstrue a final moment of relief, Ghulinstrue having much more difficulty than Fikarn due to their peaceful ways. After realizing that there was no way he would be able to hold them off forever, he began a powerful incantation, the likes of which were too unbelievable to even be included in myth. With the help of his retinue, He unleashed his ritual on the world, sacrificing the life of himself and almost all of the wizards save a few.
The result was impossible to believe at first. All the world felt their bodies tingle and felt an unknown change, until the creatures attacked once more and were incapable of hurting them in any way. They seemed impervious to injury, and with this new found blessing they pushed back the Sylthuu and drove them out of our realm. Upon further investigation by the few wizards left, they found that they were not invincible. They spent a great deal of time studying this magic that surrounded all humans and the other races of the world, and came to an interesting conclusion. They were not immune to injury or death, only immune to attacks that were deliberately aimed at injury. They could still scrape their knee or stub a toe, but could not be stabbed or slashed, the blades pushed aside as if made of cloth. With this new enchantment, and with the nations of Ghulinstrue and Fikarn still wanting to seize control of the other, the strategists and warlords began to discuss ways of combat, some way to allow them to train and better equip themselves for victory. And no one could find a way, all attempts seeming to fall miles from home, and for two hundred years the way was never found.
However, it was one unorthodox youth, his name Giylaan Diure, that happened upon a truly strange way to effect others. In 1430, After a heated debate and argument with a bar patron, he decided that he didn't want to hurt the man, but instead humiliate him. So, he grabbed the man and, much to the amazement and confusion of the crowd, began to squeeze the man's sides, causing him to laugh loudly. The man began pleading for him to stop, but Giylaan continued until the man began to cry, fully humiliated. Giylaan smiled, and it was only when he got home later that night that he realized that he found a way around the defenses of the enchantment. Other's heard of this incident and assumed they knew the secret, but when they attempted the same as Giylaan, their fingers had no effect. Puzzled, Ghulinstrue and Fikarn both sent agents to attempt to convince Giylaan to share his secret. Giylaan laughed as they pleaded for information, instead tickling them as well, seeming to gain a certain joy from knowing something that no one else did. After they were completely humiliated and unable to fight back, they left and reported their failures.
As time progressed, Giylaan didn't stop learning and growing in his new found talent, instead focusing most of his life on perfecting it. He forced his way into a role of leadership, having trained a select few enforces to silence anyone that refused his rule, and no one seemed able to stop him. From there, he gained his power and ruling, and his reign was one of torture. It was common for a mass of people to be forced into torture publicly for the viewing pleasures of the select few whom reveled in his reign, and for Giylaan's entertainment himself. He ruled for six years in this tyranny, before a miracle was found in a man known as Zakue Bondence, a wizard that was old enough to have witnessed the events in 1230, now known as "The Sacrifice". He had never stopped studying and performing experiments, though only on willing volunteers, to uncover the full effect of Drek'Thul's magic. Being a rather potent wizard himself, he did indeed uncover the secret, and with this secret, he single handedly invaded Giylaan's fortress and took down his guards, using his own customized school of magic which he dubbed "Dilthueeli", an arcane word of power that translated to "Crippling Laughter".
His spells rendered the whole of Giylaan's force helpless and exausted, until Giylaan and Zakue had a face off themselves. Much to Giylaan's discredit, the fight was quick and Giylaan left laughing and defeated. He was taken away by the eager citizens of Ghulinstrue, whom had been victim of public torture for the whole of Giylaan's reign, and they decided his punishment as per Zakue's orders. Ultimately, they decided he should be put to torture for the rest of his life, and Zakue agreed, having the dungeon built on that day and finished the same day, aided by his powerful magics. And there Giylaan stayed and still is, tortured daily. It was then that Zakue took rule only by vote, and revealed his secret that all the world, even Fikarn, could have their quarrels fairly. The secret to Drek'Thul's enchantment was a simple loophole in its design. IT was designed that no intentional harm may be inflicted, and as such no one without training could effectively tickle someone, since most intended it to have wicked outcomes. However, Zakue and Giylaan both had trained to focus their minds on only crippling their foe passively, no ill intent present. Zakue's volunteers, at first, were tickled without issue, and it was there that he decided he needed a group of volunteers that wanted to find the secret, but didn't want to be tickled. It was a careful and difficult fooling of the enchantment, and after the secret was revealed, many a person began to practice such an art, and after only a few years, it became a common practice of settling quarrels. Fikarn and Ghulinstrue both agreed to fight on these rules, more as a friendly competition than a true war, and such arrangements have been held to the current day.
It's a brief history, and sort of a rough draft. More information will be revealed in the RP itself, assuming it takes off at all. But I wanted to share this with everyone. Even if nothing comes of it, I think it will still be a nice read. And I might use this setting for a story I intend to write.
