Hey guys and gals...for anyone who knew me on my Yahoo Messenger account, littleticklegirl, the password was stolen by a cookie grabber earlier today. I know who did it, and I'm in the process of trying to get it back, but I no longer have that account at this time.
So, for anyone who was on my littleticklegirl Yahoo Messenger list, sorry, but I'm not going to be able to chat with you for a little while.
God, I hate scammers and stupid assholes.

That is worrying, how on earth does somthing like that happen ? (cookie grabbing that is).

I didn't think that would be possible unless u r a Computer wizkid that can hack into anything.

I sincerley hope that this gets sorted out for you

You would of thought that an organiseation like yahoo would have some sort of secure encryption.

I.D theft seems to be getting quite big all over the world.

damn this is like the second time i've heard of this happening...how on earth can they do that? sorry hon...and good luck, go get that scammer..hmm i'm wondering if i can trust those on my yahoo messenger. hmm yea...i hope

Also, if you get ANY message from that account asking you to go to a website, DO NOT GO! Apparently the person who stole the account is using it to go "phishing" to steal other accounts.
I repeat, if you get a message from littleticklegirl on Yahoo Messenger, DO NOT go to the website.
I'm so sorry if this causes anyone any problems. I promise you, it isn't me sending you any messages. I still can't get into my account. *sigh* :ignite:

try this

I am not familiar with yahoo messenger. But most of those account require an email adress to register.
If you forget your password they send a new one to this adress.
Try that, check if there is such a password recovery function at yahoo messenger and you will get a new password to YOUR mailbox.

right and do that as quickly as possible..the changing your password..because with that password they can access your email..

oh

Oh I forgot that. Hopefully you don't have your yahoo-mail set as recovery adress.

But now when I'm writing... on the other hand, which sense would it make to send a password to an adress that requires the same password (that you actually forgot!) to read it?

For such cases it pays if you have two adresses at different providers. Then you can set one adress at the other account for recovery.

Yahoo Theft

I too had my account stolen on yahoo,,,I did get it back through much perseverence, took what I wanted out and deleted the account. Please also be advised that there are actually fake yahoo sign in screens, which is how the phisher is obtaining passwords. They have a new sign in seal (yahoo), please activate it. Upon signing in at your computer, the seal will show up in the right hand corner....if it does not...you are on a phishing screen. Hope this helps!

happened to me too, I changed my yahoo ID just tonight. It's now heatherlove1985. If anyone has the old one, heatherlove85, don't open any links from it because it is more than likely going to stealy your sn.

yahoo id stolen

hey guys...
just add me to the list of fatalities.i had mine stolen too, so if anyone gets and im from ticklishcutie19....delete it!!! i guess some people have stupid ways to amuse themselves...screwing up other people's accounts like this. guess i need to warn the people on my list.good luck to all who were affected by this idiot!

1. If you haven't already, go to www.windowsupdate.com and install all of the available updates. They close a large number of security vulnerabilities.

2. Always look carefully at the URL of any site you're signing into. For example, make sure that you're signing into finance.yahoo.com, not financ.yahoo.com. Any deviation in spelling or etc. means that it is NOT the site that you may think it is. Also, make sure that the sign-in page makes sense in regards to the URL of the page you are viewing. A Yahoo login screen shouldn't appear on someone's Geocities page. (for example)

3. Actively protect yourself: Install anti-virus software (you can get AVG or Avast for free, if you're a cheap-ass like me). Install anti-spyware software, like Spybot - Search and Destroy or Grisoft's AdAware (these are also free). Finally, a good firewall is a nice thing to have. A software firewall (such as Zonealarm - yes, its free too) is good. A hardware firewall (such as those usually found on quality routers (not free)) is better. Having both a hardware AND a software firewall, if you set them up properly, is best.

just happened to me too...is there any way to get the friends names back??

You all need to report this to yahoo.... and I suggest all members here remove their yahoo and aim names from their profiles and only give them out to friends....

great minds think alike..i was just going to suggest that..i think it's not a good idea to show your yahoo name for the whole forum to see anyway..

I would also suggest removing any links to your myspace accounts as well...

ok a fairly stupid question here...how do you know if your yahoo account has been stolen? and your nickname?

Yep. Someone just hit me up a bit ago claiming to be you. Once they got me talking, they stopped talking and my computer started going buggy. People reallllllly need to start watching their backs. SOmeone's f'ing with us again.

Because they will change the password so that you cant get in....

Ya know.....

This is probably a good time to remind folks that online security is something to be taken seriously. Having ANY personal information out there is not a good thing. If people know what they're doing (and that's easier than you might think), they can get at it even in so-called private areas. So, if you don't want the whole world knowing stuff about you, don't put it online.

ok another question..how do they get your password?

Some people have programs that can swipe them. Most often, someone will send you a fake e-mail with a link to supposedly correct an issue. The link will take you to a mirror of the true site and ask you to sign in. Once you do, they've got you. So, a basic rule to follow.......mouse over hotlinks. If the URL doesn't make sense for where it's supposed to take you to, DON"T use it! Some are close to the real thing, too. So, check closely.

thanks Ann...gesh some people are basically bastards..aren't they? i'll make sure and not open any link that looks suspicious..

If I understand this correctly, it is not the opening of the link per se that will get you in trouble. It is the typing of the password---am I correct on this matter?

And if one does fall prey to this, going in and changing password immediately should help diminish the damage right?

Thank you.

you need to type in a password to open a link? i'm extremely confused now..the only passwords i have are for my email accounts and this forum.

It happened to me too!!

My ticklemonster_99 account had been hijacked about 3 months ago and i was unable to get it back...it's now in spanish!! yahoo was unable to get it, claiming that since i had moved , my IP address was different so they could not help me. Now this sounded like a load of B.S., but i had no recourse other than opening a new account...now i'm ticklemonster202 on yahoo...but i don't IM that much anymore. : (
