National Champions

As of now Florida is #1!

thoughts, comments?

I am not overly surprised that Florida won. I figured it'd be a close game. Oklahoma really hadn't played a great defense all year long, and Florida held Oklahoma all game. I really would've liked to see Texas play Florida. I think that'd be a great game too.

OK, I'll bite.

Florida has to be number one, they won a pretty entertaining national title game that involved the two best teams from the two best conferences in college football. I just don't see how Utah, 13-0, beat three ranked teams, playing in a tough conference themselves, don't deserve at least a share of the championship. What we all should be asking is who wins the plus one game, Florida or Utah?

That was a truly great game. It was one before our radio show, and I'm sitting here going "Ok, don't go to overtime...don't go to overtime...." 🙂

What amazed me was the play of both defenses. Especially Florida's. Oklahoma's got a freakin' video game offense, putting up 60 some points in 5 straight games or something ridiculous like that, and Florida held them to 14. It's not that the schemes are that great, but I have never seen such a fast defense. They swarm. Wherever you are, they're there.

Both teams played a tight game, far better than when Florida upset and blew the monkeyshit out of Ohio State.

Congrats to the Florida Gators!!!

good question...

can`t imagine florida would play that game. they have nothing to win & everything to lose. This is the foundation of what is wrong with BCS bullshit game

Yeah, but look who Oklahoma's played to get those 60 points in those 5 games.......of COURSE it's going to make them look better. They got beat by Texas, and even OK STATE kept the scoring between 4-10 points until they completely gave up in the last 3 min of the game. So yeah, their defense still sucks until they play a team with a worse defense. I'm happy they lost. Hopefully the rankings next season will reflect that.

i think serious consideration needs to go to giving utah a peice of the national title.. only undefeated team in the bowl subdivision and they beat oregon state, tcu, byu and alabama.. although this argument is useless because they wont get voted that high even though they deserve it more than florida

I thought that Florida would run away with the game and I was kind of suprised that the Sooners played such a great game. I thought Florida would run away with the game just because of the SEC's perfomance in the previous 2 National Title games. It turned out to be a close game, but it appeared to be bad offensively. I don't know if it was the layover, the performance of the defenses or some other factor. Both Quarterbacks threw 2 interceptions in the game and didn't playup to their usual levels.

I think that the only team that has an argument for a split national title is Utah at the moment. They went 13-0 and played 3 ranked teams during the year. USC and Texas have no one to blame but the commissioners of their conferences who are against any kind of playoff and when approached with a plus one game by group from the SEC, they voted to not even listen to their proposal. It is sad for the fans of Texas and USC, but it is the fault of their conference head that they are in the spot they are in.

Thom Brennaman's mancrush on Tim Tebow was very disturbing

Esp since he will yet another stud ncaa qb who will slip into obscurity in any nfl program, esp detroit

Tebow may be the classiest athlete ever at any level.. i hope he goes back to school and tries to refine his passing skills.. i really really hope he goes steve young or rich gannon on the nfl and suceeds when no one thought he would

Not saying he isnt a nice guy

But then again, its pretty foolish when Thom goes defending Tebow at that unsportsmanlike conduct play "Thats prob the first bad thing he's ever done"

Yes but he is not an A caliber passer

You cant run the option in nfl football and many "speed" qb's have been studs in ncaa to flop or not even be tested in nfl(eric crouch comes to mind)

oh i know i dont expect him to do good in the nfl but there is always the hope no one thought anything of steve young and when rich gannon went into the draft they wanted him to be a saftey

Tebow is a real class act, and I have to admit I like him at the pro level for a lot of reasons. "Running QB's" and system quarterbacks aren't usually successes in the NFL but Tebow has a competitive fire in him that you can't teach. And if the right team gets a hold of him and can sit him or use him in certain packages like when he was a freshman at Florida, I think he could totally meld himself into a legit NFL QB.

Can anyone really saw Tebow can't be quarterback in a league in which Sage Rosenfels, Dan Orvlosky, and Ryan Fitzpatrick saw time this year?

I would like to see Tebow succeed just because he seems to be a really nice guy and he does have talent. I don't know why everyone is down on this guy as a starting QB at the next level. The guy is a proven winner and he has a completion percentage of over 65% for his career. I do get tired of the Steve Young comparisions just because he is a lefty and he runs. If anything he reminds me a lot of Vince Young because he is a guy who just seems to know how to win. I'm sure he will be playing in the NFL sometime and I would guess as a QB, but I could see him trying out as a TE or a HB/FB. I don't know if he could be a halfback though because he just doesn't seem to have the speed necessary. I hope he succeeds though because he seems to be a talented kid who is not too full of himself.

first off all of those quarterbacks have a better arm and more accuracy then tebow..

and people are down on tebow as a qb at the next level because he throws and ugly ball and when he throws more than 10yrds he is horrible in accurate.. and he doesnt have the arm strength to throw it down feild.. he is also too jumpy in the pocket and has a tendency to run when someone isnt open right off the bat.. and his completion percentage is at 65 percent because most of his throws are in between 5-8 yrds..

but remeber that the report on brady when he came out was nearly the same.. they said he had a soft arm and poor acuracy.. and he couldnt move around in the pocket.. id say tom has done pretty well for himself with his noodle arm and poor acuaracy:dogpile:

As I said on the show right after this game, I have a good feeling about Tim Tebow. I know it's not the most scientific or stat-oriented approach...but I rarely get a seriously strong gut feeling about a college quarterback. Most don't pan out, at least not the marquee guys or the Heisman winners. (Andre Ware, Akili Smith, Eric Crouch come to mind.)

However, for whatever reason, these strong gut feelings usually tend to pan out. Last time I had this strong a reaction, it was about Peyton Manning. Watching himn play for Tennessee, I just got this feeling I was able to watch a future legend's college career. I get that same feeling with Tebow. It's not the arm, or the ability or anything else. It's the overall package.

If he gets with the right team (and I wouldn't blame him for "pulling a Manning/Elway" if Detroit drafted him), I think he can do very well. Time will tell I guess. You can prognosticate all you want, but many of the league's great QB's were not highly regarded coming out of college. You never really know until they get into the systems.

The draft experts are predicting Tebow would be selected in the 2nd or 3rd round of this years draft. Personally I`d love to have him on my team. This kid is a gamer.

i think pitt would be a great place for tebow.. ofcourse because im a pitt fan but hear me out.. look what they have done with previous guys who played qb in college and people didnt think they could in the nfl.. hines ward..kordell stewart.. antwann randle el.. i think in pitt he could be the backup qb and play some wr and te and even some fb... pitt could use him on some of the gadget plays they run like the wr reverse where the wr throws it . and i think tebow would shine in his role if he got that
