When examining the NBA schedule, does anyone else get the feeling that whoeever makes up the schedule isn't exactly thinking. Many times, it seems like the scheduled is very random, and not logical.
While I know there are West Coast trips for Eastern teams on the schedule, and vice versa for Western teams, some of the inter conference schedules make no sense at all.
Take the Atlanta Hawks March, 2010, schedule for example. They have road games with Miami and New York on March 6, and March 8. They then have five days off, a home game with Detroit on the 13th, and then back to back road games at New Jersey and Toronto on March 16 and 17. In spite of the five days off, one has to wonder why they would play in New York, go home, and then go up to New Jersey and Toronto. It would seem that a New York, New Jersey, and Toronto trip would make more sense legistically.
I can also remember a year where the Hawks went to New York to play the Knicks on December 23rd, flew home to Atlanta for Christmas, and then returned to New Jersey to play the Nets on the 26th. While everyone has a right to be home for Christmas, if possible, it seems that it would have made more sense to do a New York/ New Jersey road trip at another time of the year, when both games could be played on the same trip.
Thoughts about the sometimes weird NBA schedule?
