Nervous and Tense when I hear laughter that has nothing to do with tickling

Not sure If I have an actually phobia but sometimes people laughing kind of bothers me. I feel nervous and tense if I hear a family member laughing at something in my house. Even in public, laughter that has nothing to even do with tickling kind of makes me uncomfortable. Its not that I think people are laughing at me or judging me. But I feel it might have to do with having a tickling fetish. Sometimes I think maybe laughter reminds me that I have this fetish and that's why I feel uneasy. If its close friends and I sharing a joke its different and enjoyable. Anyone have any other explanations?

Geliophobia? I just Googled "Phobia of Laughing" and that's what I came up with. Not at all sure if it even relates to you. If it does has something to do with your fetish though, perhaps it'll subside if and when you get comfortable with the fetish itself.

Nice font btw.

thank you.
For the most part I am pretty comfortable with it. but not as much as I could be.

Maybe get more comfortable with it if you want. If it still persists it's probably unrelated. Sounds like a not so fun phobia to have. 🙁

I am like that, sometimes. If the laughter sounds like ticklish laughter, it's like my brain says "Oh god, tickling in public, I bet I'm blushing, or reacting, or...etc. etc. etc." Even though I know it's not ticklish laughter, if it sounds similar, it evokes that same body response and then I get self conscious fearing that someone will notice my reaction.

I notice it mostly when it's with people I would not feel comfortable tickling in the first place (or being tickled by), or oddly enough when someone is laughing like that in a movie or tv show, because I'm afraid someone overhears and thinks I am watching tickling on the show lol. It's something that very shy and "closeted" ticklephiles might be most prone to. Also people who have been abused that way, because the mere mention of tickles or laughter might provoke someone to test you out, especially if they interpret your nervous response as an invitation 🙁

:ty:Everything I was trying to figure how to put in to words.

There really are people who just have laughter that sounds like ticklish laughter. There is a woman where I work who has made me catch my breath when she laughs, and I'm mostly a 'lee!

laughing is a result of tickling so it may be deeply connected to your fetish in your brain somewhere...u hear laughing and idk overstimulation or something lol i havnt figured out how that connects yet

Gotta love our Amygdalas. Its a good part of the brain that relates memories to emotions.

OH yeah, my ears perk up all the time when I hear laughter, esp. that "uncontrolled" laughing.

And like Ayla, I also work with some ladies that have amazing laughs!

I know exactly what you mean, and my initial reaction is to try to get away from it; but, curious animal that i am, i am more inclined to try to either "spy" on or nonchalantly get somehow into a better vantage point to see what is going on.

I think it's more your perception of the feeling it evokes in you.

Example.

Carly Simon (I think) had terrible stage fright. Don't know if she still suffers from it, but that's not the point. She was asked what happened she said that her palms sweat, she gets short of breath, and her heart races...that's when she knows she can't go out there.

Bruce Springsteen was asked how he knows it's the right moment to hit the stage. he said his palms sweat, he gets short of breath, and his heart races....he knows then it's time to get out there.

Same feelings different interpretation. That's really all it comes down to. You feel certain physical sensations and you apply a value to them. The same physical feelings may have a different value applied to them in a different situation. Same feelings for a roller coaster and having a gun in your face. But because of the situation, they have different interpretations; one fun and one horrible.

We apply emotional values to some of of the electrical signals and feelings that course thru our bodies.

I wonder if you were in a room full of other TMFers instead of family, or in public, if the laughter would make you uncomfortable or if you would enjoy it.
