NEST Hotel

(grin) For about 14 years M and I have been going to the Richmond (Virginia) Tattoo Arts Festival, one of the longest running in the USA.
The tattoo artists and fans pretty much take over the hotel. We all sort of smile at the startled and sort of frightened expressions as the last of the 'families' and business travelers are leaving the festival hotel on Thurday mid-day.

By that time the neon signs, banners, and displays of century old museum art and equipment are going up, not to mention all the 'very colorful' people strolling into the hotel lobby!

The hotel gives away free festival t-shirts to all the employees, from reservation clerks, to housekeepers. From what we have heard, the hotel employees all want to work 'extra' that weeekend! Biggest and best time of the year for them.

I thought the rooms were nice and comfortable, although the polished marble floors in the halls could get really slick if they had any amount of water on them.

The adults-only swim swim period was an excellent idea!

Ruby Tuesdays..... NEST was from a Friday to a Monday, and Tuesday was when you'd get your food if that's the place you visited to eat. I missed a workshop from going to RT - and I budgeted my time so that I could make it and still have lunch. Thumbs down! And save me the aisle seat. But then, the hotel had nothing to do with them.

I didn't realize breakfast wasn't comp until about my third meal there! Only at that point did I see a sign, or a brochure, whatever it was that clued me in. And as DVNC noted, I never got hit with a charge. Then again, in the bigger picture, that made up for the late night room service prices the hotel industry conspired to charge me back when I was on the road with a ka-razy schedule doing video production. $22 for a chicken Cesar salad in L.A.? As if, Spaceman Spiff.

Actually, I'd be just as happy with the NESTees being all together, on one or two floors, with no unrelated folks on our floors, to prevent folks from calling security - it isn't as though we'd do that to each other! 🙂

That's the best idea with respect to the hotel at a gathering that I've seen.

All this slamming Ruby Tuesdays...

I did hear that one time when a group went that their food took forever and service was unfriendly, but Friday afternoon when I called in our group of about 20, they really didn't have a good place to put a large table for all of us. We were all sitting together in the same row of tables.

I also felt the staff was friendly to everyone and our food came in a timely manner. Either that or I was chatting with so many new people, I didn't realize how long the food took. But I'm not complaining, Friday afternoon's introduction lunch was a huge success in my opinion. I don't know who else would agree.

I'm sorry that I missed this luncheon. After 12 hours on the road I just wanted to sleep for a few hours then start meeting people at dinner and cocktails. I'll try to plan it better next time.
