NEST Tickling Machine Contest!

Question... does it have to be an 'invention' as such? I discovered some ordinary, almost-everyday devices that, when applied properly, work extremely well. I tested them on myself and I almost screamed with laughter--despite not being deathly ticklish, AND despite what they say about tickling yourself usually not being effective.

so assuming I don't have to pull a Q or a MacGuyver, I'm hoping these can be used =)

This contest is intended for things you make. But, we will have a second category for everyday household items that can be used...most original, etc.

Is there any chance this will be an annual contest?

I have some ideas . . . but there is no way I would be able to do NEST this year, and a mail-in entry would be strange.

Still, the ideas and the challenge intrigue me. :triangle:

Mail-in entries wouldn't be permitted anyway. You have to be there to play. But, if there's enough interest, it is possible that it will be done again in the future. :manicd:

Glad to hear it, Ann. I'd hate to find that I'd be banned from participating in a tickling session at NEST, lol. Every time someone is prohibited from tickling, an angel loses its wings.

And then implodes.

😀

This has to be something which works without your direct motion.
So Bring on all the Qs and MacGuyvers! (and Rube Goldbergs) 😉

Take good pictures for those of us who can't come please

Trying to catch up a little bit -- Unfortunately I won't be able to make NEST this year so I'll miss not only all the wonderful people I met last year 🙁

but will also not see whatever outrageous concoctions Capnmad & Alchemy & the other mildly mad inventive geniouses present here bring to the gathering :atom:

I know they've had stuff in the works for several months
----so I hope you guys all take good videos!!

(JUST of the inventions, of course!! --No faces w/o permission I'm sure!! 😛 )

Hmm. I have an idea or two, but 1) I don't have any idea how to build things, and 2) I'm not going to NEST. Oh well. 😀

I hope someone will report back on the most interesting/ most effective tickle machines that everyone comes up with. I'm interested in hearing what works, what doesn't, and what would be easy for an inexperienced 'ler to attempt to build by herself.

Fingers Work The Best.

I was watching CNN one night when they did a Story about Tickling. A College in California called for people to volunteer to be tickled for a research project. The volunteers were more ticklish being tickled with fingers than a Tickling Machine (rotating feathers on a wheel).

Depends on what part of the body that is being tickled.

Also watched a German Tickling Video where a revolving feather machine had little effect on the soles of the feet.

In a few years I'll have to send my robotic double down to NEST and have it enter the contest.

How are entries going to be judged? Does the inventor apply it to the tester, or are clear instructions going to be important? On how many people and areas will each device be tested? Are aesthetics going to be judged, or is a prototype in a rough shell going to do as well as something painted and polished? Do we need to worry about contact allergies, like latex?

I didn't want to leave this unanswered....or at least unresponded to. I'm not on the team who will be judging these things. Those who will be obviously haven't had a chance to hop online and see this yet. So, I can only say that safety, effectiveness and ease of use will likely be the most important factors.

Aside from that, I'm really not sure. I know there've been some volunteers to be test subjects. But, the judges will likely decide on a combination of things. So, I guess the best way to answer is to say to do your best on all levels and see what happens. This is simply a fun little side activity that was cooked up...emphasis on fun. Nobody is required to take part. But, any guest who'd like to is welcome to do so.

I hope this helps!
