thats it...im dropping everything and taking up farming in nevada. in case you havent heard...theres a bill going to a vote in november to legalize marijuana. its already legal for medical use there...their talking about legalizing it outright. about damn time to. from what i read on the news sites..under the bill you cant get busted for possesion of 3 ounces and under. i figure if that law passes dont expect it to stay at 3 ounces. itd still be illegal to drive under the influence.....youd have to be 21... it also says that under the bills current writing weed would be sold in federally licensed shops with cigarette type taxes. nevada law enforcement is expected to oppose it even tho its aimed at freeing up the courts and giving police more time to persue real criminals and stop wasting the taxpayers money on prosecuting people who really dont need to be. i guess their pissed cause theyd actually have to work instead of picking on wannabe hippies. in a nutshell..if that bill passes the state of nevada will become one big amsterdam. thatd be a smart move for nevada. not only would they rake in billions on the the taxes but itd most likely triple their tourism income. thatd be the best thing happen to that state since las vegas was ground broke. if all that becomes reality more states will quickly follow. on a more personal note i hope it does happen and all the alcohol manufactures go bankrupt. i wouldnt piss on jack daniels if he was on fire. im not certain how old this news is cause i been in hermit mode the last couple months....last i knew of current events colorado was on fire so its news to me....just had to throw in my 50 cents.

I didn't know about this. I hope it passes as well, though I'm not sure if Nevada could pull it off. Oregon tried legalization in the past, and it didn't work there because of the conservatives in the federal government (and we do have a conservative government now). Can the federal government overturn a state bill? With all the "drugs support terror" ads running on TV, it would be a pleasant surprise if one of our states legalized weed, but I'm not sure if it will happen. It's a step in the right direction, I guess.

Nevada does seem to be one of the more open-minded states, they already have legal prostitution.

Good ol' America, where you can get wasted, stumble [or drive 😱 ]home, puke and pass out on the toilet, all while contributing your $$ to our great economy; or you can go home, and smoke a joint to relax after work, with the comforting knowledge that you're a terrorist supporter and could be arrested for what you're doing.

Where you can smoke cigarettes every day and contribute thousands of dollars to our huge moneymaking companies; but once their product gives you cancer, you can't smoke weed to relieve the pain.

Status of the war on drugs: failed.

My thoughts exactly. Never has a law been as politically motivated as that which criminilizes marijuana. Well, politically and financially. Drug companies (you know, those big conglomerates like oil, tobacco and insurance that actually run this country) would fight this tooth and nail. Why smoke pot to relieve pain or increase appetite when you can by the newest offerring from Phizer?

Oh, sorry...it's a new drug and not covered by your insurance. What's that? Medicaid? Don't make me laugh...drugs are for the rich, not the elderly.

The new meds I'm on for fibromyalgia are covered under my insurance, but whereas most cost me around 5-10 dollars, this one has no generic equivalent and is on some fine-print list of drugs that are in a higher bracket. Every bottle costs $30. Without insurance, the medication is $287!!

It's time for politicians to quit worrying about their precious incumbancy above all else. Enough spin...I'm getting a bit sick of terrorism being used as an excuse and a blanket for everything these days, it's getting old. I don't support terrorism by growing pot in my own backyard, no matter what little factoids are dragged out.

Go Nevada!

😎

navada is also going to be a neuclear dumping ground

so please, go ahead all you pot heads, feel free to move there, and grow and smoke your beloved pot. and see yourselves glow in the dark afterwards!

all joking aside, i am against legalizing anything that makes a person intoxicated. i like a drink as well as the next, but i'd cheer if booz was also outlawed. too many people have been hurt by idiots that were high on one thing or another, and making pot legal will only increase those numbers!

About doggone time...

I've spoken at a number of rallys and so forth on the local scene for the legalization of marijuana and the removal of similar "victimless crimes" from the lawbooks. Few laws are more profit motivated. I approve of Nevada's motion, and while I doubt New York or PA will follow anytime soon, it might at least get the ball rolling for real this time (after a few false starts that got shot down in the end). Hooray for Nevada...I smell a road trip!

...and just think of the extra profits casinos could make from Twinkies alone.😎

Here, why don't you educate yourself. http://surf.to/legalize
Click on "facts" and there is a comprehensive FAQ about marijuana, the history of illegalization, the drug war, medical benefits, etc.

It's funny that so many anti-legalization people say that legalizing it will cause this surge in drug use. Currently, marijuana is the most widely used illegal drug in the United States. Statistically, the rate of marijuana use in the U.S. is much higher than use of marijuana in countries where it IS legal.... Holland, Portugal, Switzerland, all have legalized marijuana (and one of these countries, Portugal, has legalized ALL drugs), but I've yet to hear on CNN how these countries have become cesspools of drug-addled people wandering around aimlessly... Legalization has given the benefit to the law enforcement of those countries to no longer waste their time pursuing VICTIMLESS crimes, to get medical treatment rather than jail sentencing for those addicted to heavier drugs, not to mention the major boost the economy gets from this new source of income.

this is my last post on this subject.

due to the fact that i have seen the result of drug use, and i am getting quite upset about the whole thing.
so go ahead one and all, get high, move to where ever it's legal. but may the gods help you if while you're driving through my town, and you are high, and hurt, or kill one of my kids. cause heaven, nor hell will be able to protect you from my wrath.
i know the mods will delete this post, but i don't care! i'm sick unto death by all this talk of making drugs that addle the senses, and affect the judgement being made legal.

Hmmm... drugs that addle the senses and affect judgement? You mean like ALCOHOL? Oh wait, alcohol doesn't count, because it's legal right???

🙄 I'd be more worried about drunk drivers "hurting your kids" than stoned drivers, people under the influence of marijuana tend to drive more slowly and cautiously, as studies of drivers under the influence of various substances have shown.

I'm up for intelligent debate on this subject, yet it seems quite one-sided so far.

I dunno about these kind of arguments. You all might as well be arguing about which religion is better. Everyone knows that they're right, so you can't argue with other people about it.

Just my 2 cents (now worth 0.000458329 US cents).

Banning drugs...

Banning of drug use (including alcohol and tobacco, as well as the currently proscribed substances) constitutes the creation of "victimless crimes", a class of crimes our nation (and our overloaded penal system) could do without. Yes, someone driving under the influence is deadly...but then, someone driving and spilling coffee on their legs is deadly, too. Merely drinking (or smoking, or whatever) is not in itself going to cause massive death tolls, as is sometimes predicted by the more hawkish anti-drug legislators. Ironically, those who are most concerned with the elimination of drug use are the same ones who preach that one should be able to do with one's body what one chooses (i.e., the pro-choicers).

:Grrr: :Grrr: :Grrr:
personally iv never ran any kids down in the street and i resent being generically compared to vehicular killers. i to have seen the bad side of drug use...acid..crystal meth and crack. for 3 years my brother stole from and terrorized my family and myself....and most recently trying to strangle me...when he couldnt do that he tried to break my neck. when i got away from him he grabbed a shotgun and shot up my house and spent 7 months in the county jail. he wasnt high that time...he was DRUNK. on everclear. if we had been smoking grass instead of drinking whiskey it never would have happened. wed have just kicked back and laughed to much. i have a great many reasons to despise alcohol and heavy drugs cause both have had a dramatic effect on my life. so before you climb to far up your high horse areenactor let me tell you something. until 2 years ago i had never so much as taken a puff of weed and felt the same way about it as you did. but i made a decision. i felt that it was far better for my brother to do weed....here with me where i knew where he was..what he was doing and who he was doing it with...then to be out god knows where freebasing with a real bad news crowd. since that time hes gotten completly off all other drugs and neither of us have even looked at another bottle of booze and things have never been better between us cause we've never looked back. at the time i considered it a small price to pay for a little peace of mind and peace of heart and i still do. and you wanna accuse us of being menaces to your children and society in general cause we smoke? if you wanna see a real threat look down the street at the liquor store on the corner or to the guy selling heroin in the ally. ATTENTION MODS: delete it if you see fit. i said what i felt and apologize to no one.

much ado about nothing

Never going to happen..it will be a cold day in hell when any state approves legalizing it for anything other than a medical use. Worse case senerio is that if one ever does, at least i will know what state to stay away from. Still its not going to happen. I have to say (and i probably should'nt), but that never stopped me before. The story you told about your brother drkjedi about him being better on pot than other drugs sounds a whole lot to me like a parent that loads their hyper kid up with ridolin. Sure the kid is going to be passive but it sure is'nt really helping the problem much..just masking it. Then the one time it isnt around all hell will break loose. Seen it happen. Better to get him off all that crap, but hey its your lives do with it as you will. Lastly, I hope i did'nt piss anyone off with this post but just in case i did..i won't be commenting further in this thread either..thats all i had to say...
