I thought I'd never live to see the day. Rush will be releasing an EP on June 29th called "Feedback", featuring the band doing cover tunes for the first time in thier 30 year history. Designed to coincide with thier 30th Anniversary Tour, this promises to be very interesting. So far, I've only heard one track that they've been playing on CHOM 97 out of Montreal...a cover of Eddie Cochran's classic "Summertime Blues".
What's interesting about it is that it's not as much a direct cover as it is a tribute. It's been rearranged with some classic Rush-style riffs and short solo snippets that harken back to the early days of Rush. Here's a look at what's on the EP...
Tracklist: Summertime Blues - Eddie Cochran, Heart Full of Soul - The Yardbirds, The Seeker - The Who, For What It's Worth - Buffalo Springfield, Shapes Of Things - The Yardbirds, Mr. Soul - Buffalo Springfield/Neil Young, Crossroads - Cream, 7 & 7 Is - Love
If I can judge the EP by the one track I've heard, this promises to be a great addition to any fans Rush collection. I'm going to see the 30th Anniversary Concert in Montreal, and I hope they throw a few of these in the show.
