I received this in an e-mail from bear and have decided to post it on here. I think it's a powerful statement about the state of the world we live in. Enjoy and God Bless!

Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.
If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all.
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.
It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen

Amen, Amen, and Amen. very well said. Sad, but true, it seems to me people really believe God doesn't exist, that everything that happens to them is because of them. Sad world, indeed

Crydun....I received this in an email as well...simply amazing how we can talk of virtually any detrimental issue at school but mention God and you're wrong....absurd. Thanks for posting this.🙂

As I've stated before, I attended a Catholic High School where prayer and meditation was allowed in any classroom. However, I did attend a public school for the rest of my years. It makes me think about times such as September 11th and the war on terror when prayer and meditation are very much needed. People become very distraught over things such as this, and if a student wishes to have some time to themselves to reflect on those hard times. I understand that not every one person believes the same thing, and may not believe in anything at all; and more power to you! However, if you don't like it, then you can choose not to partake in it. I was never once forced to say a prayer or take communion at our monthly masses once. I do not believe that saying a prayer before the day begins, or before a big game in the locker room or when the day ends is offensive. You are not being FORCED to partake in it, and you can just choose to stand quietly, pondering over other things that are of importance to you and your life.

I didn't realize that kids were not allowed to initiate prayers themselves in schools, provided that everyone is not obligated to participate. I think that is the real issue here, and one that is often lost in the rhetoric. Basically, a public school itself should not require or sponsor prayer under any circumstances, whether it be to Jesus, Thor, the large rock outside, or Satan, any more than it should require kids to have green hair. I don't remember any kids getting in trouble for simply praying on their own in school.

Here in Alabama, we do school prayer guerrilla-style. When my oldest graduated from HS 5 yrs ago, a Federal judge had just issued a diktat to another school system, prohibiting prayers at graduation. THe word went out that our kids weren't allowed to pray either.

Our valedictorian just stood up and recited the Lord's Prayer. THe whole graduating class and the families all did the same. If there were exceptions, I didn't see them. The guy running the sound system was told that if he pulled the plug on the kid, he was gonna get a flying lesson off the top of the stadium. I consider it one small Blow Against the Empire.

The federal courts have been getting this one wrong for a generation. Fortunately, Article III of the Constitution gives Congress the power to limit the jurisdiction of the courts. There's a movement now to use that power, and put the federal courts out of the business of ruling on public display of religion. That would suit me fine - the time is long past for the elected branches of government to bring the courts under control.

You're quite welcome, TM! Actually, kudos go out to Knox the Hatter for prompting me to post this. I'm glad I did.
