New Star Trek movie kicks ASS!!!

Oh boy....where to begin?

The Wrath of Khan is NOT the only Trek film to follow from events from an episode. Star Trek: First Contact featured the Borg as the villains and they were from several episodes of The Next Generation! Not to mention the Borg and the Borg Queen went on to be in a few episodes of Star Trek: Voyager afterwards. That's a LOT of "direct episode" stuff there.

How can you be more direct then the same actor for the old show playing the same villian in the movie. There was no Borg Queen that I was aware of untill first contact. If you want to simply use an Alien race then all the Treks did have a conection by virtue of the fact that Spock is a vulcan. How ever Wrath of Khan was an direct follow up to the events of Space Seed, so it is the film that has the single best direct conection to the televition series. Besides even if there was a Borg Queen brought in to continuity before First Contact isn't there a Borg Queen on every Hive Ship? So she isn't that Unique to the Star Trek universe and I don't think the same actress played her on TV as the Movie. So you have a classic (and best) Trek Villian in Khan, who first apeared in the original show, and was played by the same actor in the 2nd (and best) Star Trek film.

Don't get me wrong, I liked First Contact, it was a great film. It had awesom effect, and a good story. It did tie in well to the TNG era of shows, and like Wrath of Khan the morality play was about the stupidity of revenge. Picard leaned what Khan didn't, and that is revenge doesn't help anybody.

by the way, look what I found.

This guy looks at how stupid the writers are in ways I didn't even think off. WOW, I am a far bigger purist then he is, but I never even thought about the fact that there is a black hole right next to earth at the end of the film.

I don't want to see this new movie at all. Nobody mentioned Space Hippies.

I was not impresed with the new direction JJ is going to take the Star Trek Univerce, I was least impressed with the reimaginings of Kirk and Uhura. The problem is that people today are so caught up in the shallow aspects of film making that they don't see the bigger picture. The acting was week, and the story was an after thought, but because the effect were great nobody cares. I would rather watch an old Jimmy Stewart B&W movie then have to sit through this thing again.

The saving grace of this movie goes to Karl Urban and his portrayl of Dr. Lenard McCoy. He nailed Ol' Bones as perfectly as anybody posibly could. I don't think it is fair to run down Eric Banna's performance as the villian either. It is the directors job to guide the actor through the production of the film. If you didn't like what Banna did then you have only J.J. Abrams to blame.

I have heard rumores that the the next movie will feature Kahn as the villian. It should be interesting to see how Abrams screws up the Star Trek Univerce by messing up it's greatist single villian.

I had thought this thread was dead, but this is worth replying to.
Any actor who would blame the director for his/her poor performance is not worth shit. As an actor, I can assure you that while the director does have an important hand in the process, the performance is ultimately YOUR responsibility, not theirs, and you don't deserve to be there if you feel you need to blame the other cast and crew members for your shortcomings.

I am not an actor, and I don't remember saying Banna blaimed Abrams for anything. In fact I like Banna in this movie. He was insane from seeing his entire planet destroyed, so the fact that he would act like a raging mad man one moment and then be perfectly calm the next was perfect for the role. Obviously Abrams was (at the very least) content with Banna's performence or he would have had him redue scenes until he was happy with it.

As the old Trek saying goes, "A Captain is responsable for the conduct of his crew.". As the director Abrams is the Captain, and it is up to him to mak sure his actors perform their scenes to his liking. If people want to tip there hat to JJ for what is write in this filme fine, but he is also accountable for what is wrong with as well (at least as far as the acting goes).

As a longstanding fan of Star Trek, I had to give this movie huge kudos. Unfortunately, for many the original Star Trek WAS broken. Even when it first came out it struggled to avoid cancellation for every season it got. It corny, had cheesy graphics even for the time, and at times could even be embarrassing to watch. Yet, the idea itself for the show was amazing. That was the idea behind creating this movie- they wanted to make a movie that people beyond just the core trekies would enjoy using the amazing backstory and plot that had been laid out before them.

And it succeeded. The number of Trek fans has increased many many fold due to this movie.

Unfortunately they lost this Star Trek fan. 🙁 I loved the orginal. No one will replace Shatner as Kirk. Shatner is certainly a bt weird but I always liked him. Maybe cause I am weird too and never seem to fit in. Anyway they destroyed the series for me. If others are happy that is cool and I am glad you like the new story line, but for me its over.

First, the new fans of this movie are like the friends you make after you win millions in a lottery. In the long run they won't be there when you need them, and these fans will only be there so long as it's "cool" to like Trek.

The problems with the old Trek go mostly to the buget, and what it didn't have in the 60's as far as tech went this film made up for in Spades x one million. However what the old show (and original 6 films had) that this film lacked was heart. There was nothing but a shallow empty shell with no depth or integrity.

Sure old Kirk was a skirt chacer, but he knew to draw the line at his ship. Even the "mystic" tear of Ellain couldn't make him forget what was most important. Some how I think pine wouldn't think twice about abandoning his crew for a quicky, "Screw 'em I am getting laid". They also turned Uhura into a manipulative slut. How can somebody justify sleeping with her star fleet instructore and then using emotional blakemale on a (wussy take) on Spock.

I am with kurch and SlaverTickler on this one (even if I thing SlaverTickler needs to up his meds a little lol).

The girl who plays Uhura certainly kicks ass! She can beam me up any day!! :devil2:

I am not trying to nock her beauty, or even her talent. I am simply not thrilled with they way they chainged the charactors. I guess it is a Shallow Trek for a Shallow world.

I can't think of a viable excuse for Uhura or Spock, but Kirk was supposed to be a different character. The primary difference being that in the first series his dad was alive and well to teach him moral values and all that other fun stuff. In this one his dad kicked it the moment he was born.

Thus why I hate the "new univerce" Kirk, the new Trek Movie, and J.J. Abrams.
