So I just happened to stumble across these style games all of... 22-25 hours ago from this post and I've had the thought of making an RPG for years before. Problem is, I dunno where to start! Looking through the forums it seems like everyone is focusing on RPG maker Ace, or is it VX Ace? I'm not sure exactly what to go with or try.

I have some cute ideas for a game or two and I can make my own art assets, but what would you all recommend to a noobie wanting to get into this sort of thing?

I feel bad that this isn't more lengthy!

RPG Maker VX Ace is pretty commonly used for these kinds of games, though RPG Maker MV is the newest one and it's pretty good too.
Due to it being newer, it's more difficult to find assets for it on the internet, but if you're using your own, that might not be a problem.
If you don't own any of these yet, I recommend waiting a while before purchasing one, for I think it is kind of likely that they both will be a lot cheaper on Steam, once the summer sale starts.

My recommendation? Don't get people's hopes too high too soon, for making a game takes a lot of time and it can be very tedious.
So you certainly wouldn't be the first one who loses interest in making a game halfway through. ^-^

However, I wish you the best of luck for your project!

No no you're very right. I'd rather not set anyone up to think I'm out to do more than I may be able to do. I admit I do get very eager about these ideas. I'm sitting down now and double-triple thinking on it to make sure its what I'd want to do. To be honest it'd likely be something small anyway, at least for now, but I'll have to wait and see what happens.

Thanks for the advice though, it really helps a ton! <3

You're welcome!

I wish I could give you advice on how to actually make a good game, but unfortunatelly my projects never made it anywhere close to being finished, so all I can say is: Don't do what I do. XD
Since I totally lack the ability to write appealing to read tickling scenes, I always put my main focus on making the game look good on a visual level, which of course takes forever. So I already put countless hours into my games, creating custom sprites and searching for and including tons of scripts, before writing the first line of dialogue... :/
And in the end, even if I ever completed a game, it wouldn't be as good as a more simple looking game with a good writer behind it.
After all, "The Supreme Element" might be my favourite tickling game - And it's totally text-based. ^-^

Something small would probably really be the best start. Not only would you get accustomed to the software, but also would you more easily be able to finish your project and get some more attention. ^-^

I think it could be informative to do a test run where all you try to do is put together a tickling scene in the engine. It'll give you an idea of whether you can deliver the main value of a tickling game to begin with.

"your whole thread in general"

Looks like the other guys got you covered in the advice department. Listen to them. Though my two cents would be to open up some of the existing games in RPGmaker and study them to see how they work mechanically.

If you decide to make a game and find yourself short on cash to buy RPGMaker, hit me up.

Quick note: As expected both, "RPG Maker MV" and "RPG Maker VX Ace" are heavily discounted (65% and 80%) right now, due to Steam's summer sale.
