New York Mets Legend Rusty Staub passed away early this morning at age 73.
Staub was an icon in New York, playing as a regular for the Mets from 1972 to 1975. .. and again when he returned to NY as a
"Specialist Pinch Hitter" in the 1980s.
I was at Shea Stadium on the day that the Mets honored Mr Staub with a special ceremony in 1986.
Mr Staub's 2716 hits, were probably Hall of Fame Worthy. However, with a 279 lifetime batting average, his totals were perhaps just short.
Mr Staub also was a well known restaurant owner, as he ran two restaurants for decades.
His passing is a major loss for baseball, New York sports, and the fans.
