Newbie Film Maker

Hi there,

I've long wanted to make my own clip store. Also to encourage a bit more action down here in Australia as in general not much happens! For a huge newbie does anyone have advice?

1. Legal issues - What sorts of things do models have to sign etc what to watch out for legally
2. Getting models - What ad material do people use? do you ever get everyday people or are they usually fetish models?
3. Payrate - Good prices for models and to make it sustainable for me.

I have a place so renting externally isn't a necessity.*

Any advice would be great!

Thanks*in advance 🙂

Hey mate Aussie here too!

So I've done a film degree and I've tried this before. I'll tell you now its not as easy as it seems, plus you'll need quite a lot of money to start up.

1. Legal issues you need them to sign a "release form". This gives you the right to all the footage of them etc as well as give you permission to do whatever you're doing.
You'll need to be able to pay them LEGALLY, whether that through a business or whatever, make sure THEY send YOU an invoice blah blah blah. There's just a lot of red tape you'll need to go through.
I'd suggest setting yourself up as a 1 man business, its quick, easy an affordable in our country. Wont take long, I don't even think you need a business plan.

2. I used to use Craigslist, and those sorts of places. It's getting tricker to find now, especially if you're an unknown. Your best bet is to firstly try friends out, build a somewhat reputable portfolio and go from there. You can also try (depending where you are) a couple of agencies I've used in the past. But if you're at Uni or whatever you can also just try there too. People who don't mind getting tickled (I did foot modelling so it was easier) don't mind an easy bit of cash. I might be able to hook you up with some people I know to help get you started but I haven't really done much fetish shooting in a little while (about 2 years). My best advice is just ask around, don't sound like a creep and be genuinely good at taking photos.

The thing with models is you're also doing them a service, they might use your photos and footage to show other photographers that they can model and the know how etc. So if you're just some guy who doesn't even understand the basics of a camera and you're wanting to use your smartphone, Don't even bother. Seriously, if its just to jack off in your own time, don't bother. This is an actual industry, you can get big if you're good.

3. Payrates are always negotiable. But I'll be real I barely made any money (to be fair, i'm not the greatest photographer). You gotta get yourself out there and advertise, a lot of people these days get free content so you need to make content that makes them believe that what they can purchase is better than your free stuff.

My Models were always payed by the hour.
- Amateur (No modelling exp) $90 - $120 an hour (up to a 3 hour shoot)
- Some Exp (So been on some amateur shoots like mine) $120 - $180 an hour
- Exp Modells (I only had 2 of them and they were from modelling agencies) $250 - $400 an hour. They also know what to do so the shoots were pretty dam quick. I got all the content I needed in less than 90 minutes.

Also heres the thing, you might get 3 hours of footage and you'll find only 20 minutes was good. I'd be researching big tickling hits (or foot fetish photos for me) and see WHY they're so popular. What angles, stories they use.
For example, How does Captured Doll grab her audience? What is it that makes her so much better than anyone else? What makes her unique? Then ask yourself the same thing, How can I get popular? What will make me stand out from the other 100 clip stores?

Anyway if you need anymore help about film hit me up. Its my job! I don't usually do fetish material anymore but the ground work is the same. It's not easy if you wanna be good.

Good luck mate
