GRRR! Today has been the biggest nightmare of a day with my computer! (I know that doesnt sound like proper English, but Iam ready to bash this thing in!)
First, I received a notice that I had to download my new Norton Anti Virus, because it had expired, so that ended up taking about 3-4 hours, with my slow computer. After that, when I tried to get back online, my AOL wouldnt let me back online, because I had a problem with the AOL software that was installed in my computer. It had a corruption or tear in the software, and never really functioned properly, and I had been getting these error messages, and had been reinstalling certain files to keep it going. After the new Norton Download, the whole thing just crashed.
I went out with my friend for our usual weekly visit, and when I came home, downloaded a 9.0 version from a disk. I then come to find out that the 9.0 version I dled from the disk was NOT the same one that had been corrupted in my computer, but a previous version, and not the most updated one. I figured, the download from disk was fast, I'll just use this one tonight, and get a new disk, and DL in the morning! Wrong! I had some very important emails saved on my previous AOL 9.0 disk, in what I thought were secure folders, and now, they are all gone! Replaced by old old emails that are of no use to me anymore!
Bottom line, this thing is driving me nuts! I could DL a new version of the AOL I had previously online, but learned it would take 2 hours, which is something I do not feel like doing after the 5 to 7 hours I've spent screwing with this thing today!
So, now my plan is to get a most updated version of a disk tomorrow, and reinstall it, with the HOPE that I can somehow retrieve the emails that have been lost! Iam ready to throw this whole computer out the window, and all due to a freaking Norton DL! GRRRRR!
Okay, end of rant! Do any of you ever feel like you want to bash your computer in? Sometimes machines can be so useful, other times, so stupid! Today I just want to kick my computer! GRRRR! I hope tomorrow is a better day with this stupid thing!😡 🙁

I feel your pain. There are twelve computers in the office where I work and info systems had to come upgrade all of them including mine. What a horror! Even more of a horror is having to give them my passwords to complete their upgrade and have them looking in Google to figure out what "secubus" means.... yeah. I like to use interesting passwords at work... what can I say?

Blegh, sounds like a miserable time. THe only thing I can tell you is to get rid of AOL as quickly as you can and switch to an ISP that provides the connection only, and doesn't require you to use any programs.

A few things to consider....

If this is the AOL with antivirus software included in the download, you should almost never downlaod a new antivirus program while another is active (I am only saying almost because I am sure someone has gotten lucky and done it before, but it is regarded as an unsafe thing to do). Typically, the two software packages will start battling each other and your computer will crash.

AOL is such a proprietary piece of shit. Get an ISP, get another mail service, and quit paying those clowns any more of your money. You can run AIM without AOL, so you will still be able to chat with your buddies.

The new Norton has so much going on in the background, that if your computer is as small as you say it is, your computer wont be able to do anything with with Norton 2005 running in the background anyway. I have a 3.06 processor (hyperthreaded) with 512 MB of RAM, and I dont feel comfortable trying to run it on my computer. Save up the money you were going to send to AOL and Norton and if you have even one slot in your computer expand your RAM instead. I use Avast for my antivirus needs. It updates daily, dominates next to nothing on my processor....and is a free download from the Internet!! If you absolutely must pay for the antivirus software (some people refuse to believe that antivirus sotware that is free works) check out McAfee.

Dont save your e-mails on someone else's server space if you feel they are that important. Copy and paste your important ones to NotePad (every computer on the face of the planet has it...its basically bare-boned Word). It will create a basic text file that is going to probably range in the 1-3 kb range. Not only will you have your stuff on your comp instead of depending on someone else, you will have versions that are much smaller in memory size.

Oh, and no, I have never wanted to kick my rig. Unfortunately, in my experiences, about 99.9% of the problems computers encounter are usually the fault of the owner or user 😉 . I have wanted to kick other people though; that is why no one is allowed to use my comp but my wife.

I dont think there is a person in world who has not had a problem or 2 with their computer. A soon as any knew software goes on we are all in the realms of the unknown. Never quite knowing if there are going to be any conflicts or not.

Who needs Computers??? WE DO!!!

I've had MS XP Service Pack II sitting in my download folder for six months, and can't bring myself to install it on a machine that's running just peachy,
cuz I know what will happen.

Maybe one of these days I'll back up everything in sight to CD's then give it a whirl.

but not today.. or tomorrow.. or even the next day.

Sigh, computers were invented to solve problems which wouldn't exist without computers... All I can say is:
