Last night I was one of 46,000+ fans in Dodger Stadium who witnessed a gem: Clayton Kershaw pitched a no-hit shutout victory with 15 strikeouts and no walks. The only Rockies batter to reach base against him hit a chopper to shortstop which Ramirez threw wide of first base for a two-base throwing error. Kershaw faced only 28 batters, one over the minimum.

While two pitchers have had no-hitters with more than 15 strikeouts, both walked at least one batter. Only one batter reached a 3-ball count and only one reached a 2-0 count. Kershaw worked efficiently throwing 107 pitches total in the 9 innings.

The final score was Dodgers 8, Rockies 0. Rookie 3rd baseman Miguel Rojas had quite a night: In the third inning he had a bases-loaded, two-out double for 3 RBI, and in the seventh inning he made a great fielding play to rob Tulowitzki of a hit down the third baseline. I would say tht Kershaw owes that young man a free dinner in the best restaurant in town.

I have been attending baseball games for more than half a century. This is the first time I have seen a no-hitter in person.

Congratulations, Clayton Edward Kershaw! :bouncybou

Milagros this is for you.

I don't like the Dodgers at all, but I appreciate good baseball when I see it. According to this article, Kershaw's performance was the best of all time.....ever! Thats pretty awesome. And that's so cool you were there for it!

EDIT: Okay, technically it was the second best of all time, but it was still the best no hitter ever, according to whatever metric this article used. I'm trying to wrap my mind around that

I'm very happy, for you, mils. I know how much you love the Dodgers, and how sweet it must have been for you to have it happen, when you traveled 3000 miles from home to see your favorite team.

Awesome!

MIlagros, when you have the chance, you have to listen to the highlights of Vinny on the call. its utter brilliance!

My friend who lives in Culver City recorded the game on her DVR, so I did get to see it again at her house later that week. Yes, Vin Scully was his usual great self as announcer.

My favorite part of the call was when Vin said "Lost in all the hype of all this.. is the Dodgers still trail the San Francisco Giants by 4 games (at that time) in the National League West." - that was brilliant~ and so accurate from one of the game's best announcers.
