The Good Guys embarked on their first road trip of the season. After losing two of three in New York, they won two of three in both Atlanta, and Houston, to finish a winning road trip. They returned home, on a Sunday night, to begin a nine game homestand, their second of the year.
While both Mitch and Naomi superficially put on a "Brave Face", about the situation in regard to the baby, their first time apart in many months caused them to face the realities of the situation, how the baby would change their lives, and the perception about them, as baseball players, teammates, members of the community, and parents. It was not the most normal of situations, and, theoretically, both Mitch and Naomi worried that they would incur the wrath of their grown children, their teammates, and their fans, when the news came out. The couple, in spite of their marital difficulties, that were known to their teammates, had always managed to create a positive aura around themselves as role models. Now, they worried they would lose everyone's respect, if it had come out that they were engaged in a consensual threesome, with a woman they had grown to love dearly, and would probably both marry, if bigamy and polygamy laws did not apply. Mitch and Naomi wanted only the best for Cathy, and were thrilled for her that she was going to have a baby, and Mitch vowed to be the best father he could, the same as he was to his other grown children, but the issue of the whole situation with Cathy, caused a huge problem for everyone. A problem that was potentially life and image ruining for them all.
When Mitch arrived home on Sunday night, Naomi met him at the door, and he gave her a very quick greeting kiss, and was unable to look at her. She noticed immediately, and called him on it. "Look at you. Look at what you look like. You cant even look me in the eye!" She exclaimed. "I keep thinking that we are both finished when this comes out. We consensually agreed to my fathering our mistress's baby. Cathy was supposed to be our secret, for our love, and sexual fun, to improve our marriage. Now, what do I do? Do I disavow myself as the father of Cathy's baby? Also, if our teammates hate it, we can always say fuck baseball, and retire. I wont like losing some of the friendships, but we can survive. My concern is our grown kids. What happens if they hate us? Or lose respect for us as people. We have always tried to teach them right from wrong, and while this isnt a crime, it does go against the vows of marriage, even if it is consensual. This is a mess that I couldnt fathom the magnitude of, until now." Mitch said. That night, Mitch and Naomi got into bed, but didnt make love. The backlash was being felt, in a big way.
The next night, the Good Guys opened their nine game homestand, with a game against the Pirates. Gil Bellows was the starter. Paradise got only one run, on an Ed Burns homer, but Bellows pitched a shutout, for a 1-0 win. Charlize pitched on Tuesday night. She gave up only two runs, as the Good Guys rallied from a 2-1 deficit, to score three in the eighth, for a 4-2 victory. Neve Campbell took the ball on Wednesday night, and allowed five runs, as the Good Guys could get none at all, and suffered a 5-0 setback.
Thursday was an off day. That day, in counesling, Mitch discussed his feelings of conflict. "I want Cath to have this baby, and for her to have joy, and I want to be part of the child's life, and for it to know it's dad, but I'm terrified that my grown children are going to hate me, and their mother. It isnt as if Naomi and I split, both found other people, and had other offspring. We are still together as a family, and did this, and now I'm worried that we made a terrible mistake." Mitch said. "This was the pitfall to making such a decision, Mitch. I cant guarantee how your other grown children will react. It's a rather odd situation, for a man to have another child, with his consensual mistress, that his wife is part of a threesome with, when the husband and wife, who have been married for a quarter century, have three other grown kids already. I wish I could help you with this, but I cant. All you can do is decide when you feel the right time to tell them is, and deal with whatever reaction they have" The therapist said.
Chicago came to town on Friday night. Rachel Leigh Cook gave up a Grand Slam homer, and took the loss, 4-3. Hayden pitched on Saturday night, and combined with Kate Hudson on a shutout, as the Good Guys blanked the Cubs, 2-0. Gil Bellows had the ball on Sunday afternoon for the 1pm game, a sunny, dry, 80 degree day, in front of a sellout. Gil gave up only one run, as the Good Guys broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the eighth, to coast to a 4-1 win
St Louis entered Paradise on Monday, for the homestand's final series. Charlize got hammered on Monday night, allowing seven runs in five innings, of what would be a 7-5 loss. Neve Campbell pitched on Tuesday night, and, for the second time in a row, got lit up, getting hit for nine runs, in five innings, of a 9-4 defeat. Rachel Leigh Cook pitched on Wednesday afternoon, as the Good Guys tried to avoid getting swept, a sunny, dry, 84 degree day, in front of a sellout. Cook gave up three solo homers, but kept the Good Guys in the game, as Paradise rallied from a 3-2 deficit, to score five times in the eighth. The bullpen gave up a run in the ninth, but held the Cardinals off, for a 7-4 Good Guy win, that completed a subpar, but winning, five and four homestand. The pitching had been far from good on that homestand, and Mitch was not playing up to par, but, as the Good Guys packed to head to Pittsburgh, at least they had a winning homestand.
On Wednesday night, Mitch and Naomi met with Cathy at the hotel. During dinner, Mitch had trouble looking Cathy in the eye, and kept staring down at her open toe sandals, with red polished toenails showing through. Finally, Cathy couldnt stand it any more, and broke the silence. "Stop staring at my feet, Mitchell. If you're so obsessed with them, when we go upstairs, I'll take off my shoes, and you know you can always do whatever you want to them, but I have a feeling this is about far more than my feet" Cathy said. "I dont know what to do, Cath, I'm terrified. Would you be willing to come with Naomi and me to talk to our therapist, to see if maybe the three of us being present in the same room, and talking to him, can help me overcome what I have to do?" Mitch asked. "Yes, you know I'm more than willing to do anything I can to help you out. Part of me wonders if maybe I should meet your grown children, with you, and Naomi, to show them I'm a real person, and not just some tramp who is fucking their mother and father" Cathy said. Mitch sighed. "I dont know what the answer is" He mused.
In the meantime, the previous Saturday, Mitch didnt involve himself in the Saturday tickle party, but instead paid a female dom $100 to be tickled in a private room. Mitch was tied hands and feet to the bed, in the private room. The dom began the tickle on the naked Mitch's neck, as his head shifted, and the laughter began:HAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAA! Working down, the dom attacked Mitch on his underarms, sides, ribs, and belly with fingers, as he thrashed:HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA! NOOOOOOO! Moving down, the dom next tickled Mitch on his hips, inner thighs, and knees, causing his legs to buck:AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAA! Finally, the dom attacked Mitch's bare feet with fingers, feathers, and ice. Mitch went ballistic, howling with laughter!:HAHAHAHAHHAAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAA! OMG TICKLES SO MUCH STAHPPPPPPP! NOOOOOO! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA! Finally, the tickle ended, and Mitch was untied.
On Thursday night, Naomi drove Mitch to Nassau International, so that he could catch the team flight to Pittsburgh: "Maybe Cathy is right, Mitch. Maybe it's time we have to face the music. It will be like trying to hide an elephant in a closet. If our grown kids hate the situation, we'll just have to deal with it" Naomi said. "Nai, I feel like we are both headed for the chopping block. I feel like this will change everything, and that we will lose everything" Mitch said. Naomi sighed. "I dont know what the outcome will be, Mitchell, but I do know we cant hide this forever, nor can we go on like this" Naomi said.
So, it had been a subpar homestand filled with torment and conflict. Now came a ten day road trip. Would the couple make the decision to expose their secret to the world, in spite of the damage that decision could cause? What would happen next? That answer to come in the continuing story of the Tickle Team From Paradise Island.
