Well, we had a thread at the beginning of the season asking folks to take shot in the dark Super Bowl picks. We'll see at the end of the year if anyone hit it.
But, since we can pretty much tell what each team is up to, who do you think has the shot now?
In the first-week thread I said Baltimore/Atlanta. And you know what? I'm still sticking with Baltimore. As far as the AFC goes, I've already counted Indy out, not because they have a sole loss, but because they haven't looked that great in thier wins. And they choke in the playoffs, it's what they do. It's thier job. Peyton Manning is a legend in the making, and I have all the respect in the world for him. However, he's our generation's Marino...all the stats while Tom Brady (this generation's Montana) has all the rings.
If not Baltimore, I have a strong feeling about the Chargers. In fact, I'm willing to go out on a limb and predict a Chargers/Ravens Championship game...and a close one at that. Ladanian Tomlinson is the real deal, folks...and a much-needed classy kid in this age of cry-baby wanna-be stars. T.O. doesn't deserve to lick this kid's shoes.
Well, it seems my Atlanta pick was off-base, but I'm sticking with the NFC South and saying....gulp....New Orleans. Yep, the Saints. Gut feeling. I predicted in the beginning of the year that the Bears would start to show the chinks in the armor, and it's starting to happen. Playing against good teams they've not been effective on offense (but they have won the close ones, to thier credit. I just don't think they can continue the close-shave games against better teams).
Dallas is looking better and I think I'm almost ready to say the Cowboys in the NFC Championship game. Them or the Bears. Romo loks great, but it's only been a couple of games. String together five wins and I'll be really impressed. Or come from behind under pressure against a good team. (And by the way, the Colts don't really count...this was a bad defense just waiting for a good team to come along and knock them off. And before the 'Boys fans jump on me, they DID play a good game, I'm not taking that away from them.)
But, I just got this feeling about the Saints. They are playing tough games and thier losses have not been the typical let's-beat-up-on-the-Saints slaughters. So, I'm saying New Orleans and letting the chips fall where they may.
And just for fun, to see how close I can get...
Patriots win the AFC East
Colts win the AFC South
Ravens win the AFC North
Chargers win the AFC West
Wild Cards: Jets, Bengals (yeah, yeah...they'll pull it together)
Cowboys win the NFC East
Saints win the NFC South
Bears win the NFC North
Seahawks win the NFC West
Wild Cards: Panthers, Eagles (I think Garcia can do enough with a good team to not lose games, plus the rest of NFC just sucks)
Anyone else?
