I think the Cowboy's of the 90's could have taken on any team in any era, simply because they had depth like none before. They reaped so much out of drafts and trades that the first two lines were very good.
If not for free agency, they would have won a lot more, but such is life (and sports).
I'm just waiting for the remarks from that other "football" crowd 🙄😉
'Cuz all the Cowboys of the '90's are around 40, while the guys from the '70's Steelers are well into thier '60's. Heck, some of 'em are probably dead. You ever see a dead guy catch a ball? It ain't pretty. 🙄
The Steelers. That Steel Curtain was one of the best. I think they would have completely shut down Aikman and co.
Key Match ups
Michael Irvin vs. Mel Blount
Edge: Blount
Jay Novacheck vs. Mike Wagner
Edge: Wagner in one on one but there would be a free safety to help out
Emmit Smith vs. Jack Lambert
Edge: Even
Nate Newton vs. Joe Greene
Edge: Greene in a runaway. That would also mean Aikman would be looking up to the sky from the groung more than half the time
Not to mention you have guys like Andy Russel, Jack Ham, Ernie Holmes, Dwight White who I think are better than some of the other Boys
Also not to mention that the Steelers offense features Bradshaw, two Hall of Fame Receivers in Swann and Stallworth, and a Hall of Fame back in Franco Harris.
I know that Emmit and Aikman will make the Hall but I think Harris was a better back and Bradshaw was a better QB with better receivers.
My prediction of the game would be Steelers 27 Cowboys 10
I think the Steelers were the better team by far, had more Hall of Famers and the like but if you're talking about both teams playing each other magically in their primes, then the Cowboys win easily. The game had changed much to much form the 70's to the 90's and by the game, I mean physically. I know it's far form the same thing but I played one year of college ball (Division III, I have to admit) as a 210 pound offensive lineman - were I to show up at my school in the 90's at the size, they'd worry for my life. All time greats like Webster and Lambert played at 250 and 220 (or less), they couldn't play effecyively at that size in the 90's. Joe Green and Mel Blount were considered hige for their positions at around 275 and 215 respectively; Greene would be considered grossly undersized today. Blount was the only one who was a bit of a mutation size wise (hell, they changed the bumb and run rule largely because of him). As a Giants fan, I hat to say this but I think the 90's Cowboys easily outphysical the 70's Steelers.
Probably based on the size difference in today's players the Cowgirls would have the edge...but on sheer talent and ability to do what they wanted when they wanted I'd still side with the Steelers. Yes the defense is small but where would Ache-man throw too? And Blount was the right size for any generation! And if the steelres could pund Earl Campbell into submission what would they do to Emmit Smith?!?!
Plus on the offensive side Harris, Blier, Swann & Stallworth are good to go at anytime...I would be a bit worried about the offensive line protection...but they managed to stop "Too Tall" Jones and Randy White back when the head slap was legal...so I'll take my chances!
