Good morning -

I thought I'd bring up one of our favorite words TICKLE. Ever since I was young, I've enjoyed simply seeing the word, in all it's tenses. I never realized until just recently, what seeing that word meant to me. I used to look it up in the dictionary, look it up in those famous quote books, take peeks in the boostore, almost anywhere.

When I read it, I imagined, I was either saying it, or having it said to me. I wanted someone to be tickling my feet and say the word, or use it in someway over and over again. Or have someone rib tickling me and taunting me with playful tickle words.

Have others had these same thoughts? What does the word mean to you? I know it's not the same as the tickling act itself, but I'm curious as to the history people have with this great word. Please tell me your experiences!

Thanks for your input!

Same here. Would LOVE seeing and or hearing the word. Would look it up in every dictionary and or encyclopedia too!
The first time I looked up the word, I forget the dictionary exactly but they had words used in sentences after each definition and after the definition of "ticklish" the sentense was......."Sallys feet are tickish".
I was a young kid at the time but I wanted to meet this Sally for the longest time :devil2: lol!

I will say that of course I do love the word Tickle. To me it represents pleasure, laughter, and excitement through pleasurable touching. However, a word that I love even more, especially in relation to girls, is ticklish. To me, that represents a vulnerability that they have, and something that can cause them laughter, pleasure, and excitement. Many times if I see a desirable looking female either in public, or say, a newscaster, weather girl, or actress on tv, or in the movies, I'll think to myself: "Gee, is that girl ticklish, and I wonder what her tickle experiences have been in her life" I'll be thinking to myself, as sturdy as that girl looks, I wonder what her reaction would be if tickled by two or three lers. I think the most desirable fantasy for me, in addition to of course tickling any desirable or good looking woman, would be to see a woman who normally might be as cold as ice in another situation, or a very headstrong person, reduced to hysterical laughter from being very ticklish. That is one of my greatest fantasies. I've not seen it happen often, but it would be great if it happened more.

So, to summize, tickle, yes, a great word, but ticklish, even better to me, for the reasons I've listed here.

I would agree, Mitch, tickle is a good word, but ticklish....is a wonderful word! In a sense, when I said tickle, I meant all of the tenses involed in that, whether it be tickling, ticklilsh, ticklishness, tickler, ticklee, the whole gamat of expressions.

I like hearing the word ticklish, because it does mean a vulnerability. I agree completely. When someone reveals they are ticklish, or you think they might be ticklish, it opens up alot about the person. You start wondering how that person would react, what sides of them would come out, how a serous person could be made into a hysterical mess, as fingers danced over their tickle spots. It's fun to look at someone and wonder this.

Yes, ticklish is a great word....the whole tickle family of words ia great vocabulary to have! :smilestar

Just hearing the word... YUM!

I can be watching something as innocent as Star Trek, and suddenly a character will the say that blissful word--such as when John DeLancie's character, Q, was temporarily turned human and listed all the horrible things that would now be true of him (including being ticklish)...

At that point the episode was lost on me, and I know what I wanted to see! Tickle Trek! Hee hee. :firedevil

I too like the word tickle. I like ticklish or ticklishness (if there's such as word and I think there is). When ever I hear the word tickle it makes me think of me tickling someone or having someone tickle me. I also liked the word tickled in addition.

Tickling is good therefore laughter is good!

Ditto what you said, and maybe more...yes, dictionaries were my playground, the thesaurus, dictionary of synonyms, but I thought I struck gold when I studied link after Latin link in our family medical dictionary, room locked, hand in the panties, lol. I could never be satisfied until it came in a circle back again to our favorite word. Abnormally normal kid, I guess...

I LOVE being Tickled

:feets: <<<<---- Tickling, Tickle Tickled Ticklish...I LOVE it! Those words are music to my "soles." :happyfloa

I have a new lady friend (I think). We've only been out once, talked on the phone 3-4 times. She has used the words tickle or tickled at least a half dozen times so far.

She says she can hardly wait to spend more time with me. I'm beginning to feel that way, too!

Great post! 🙂

I am beginning to feel like less and less of a weirdo every day! How many times did I go to the foreign language section of a bookstore and, for the heck of it, look up the word tickle in Swahili or Polish or Bahasa Malay? 😀

It IS a good word ...... I've looked it up in the dictionary a million times , even though I knew the definition.

Everytime I see or hear the word, I think about tickling someone. I too have looked it up many times just to see it there on the page.

Good topic...

I too read the dictionary...and looked up tickle in all its wonderful forms that were mentioned above...actually for as much as we LOVE to hear or read the word tickle....SAYING the word tickle is a whole different story.

I have been to many gatherings and the biggest thing there is just being able to say tickle or ticklish or whatever in an open setting.

I love when the phonic TKL is found in a word other than tickle and tickled or ticklish...
I always get a little jolt when I hear the word parTIKular....drives me nuts!!
I had a female boss that ALWAYS emphasized the TIK in particular and I always have to make sure I DON'T spell it as parTICKular.

I also love the word tickle or esp ticklish while an accent, either southern where they generally say ticklin' or that Upper Mid-West accent just GETS me...

Anyway, good stuff!

Wow....are we cut from the same cloth or what!!?? 😀

I must've looked up the word 'tickle' in every possible dictionary printed...LOL!!! I remember this one dictionary in my elementary school that had an accompanying sentence that read: "Mother tickled the bottoms of my feet with her fingers...it felt funny." I remembered thinking, 'FELT funny?? It's hysterical!!!' 🙂 I'd always get this little 'jolt' everytime I'd look it up....

....it was ALWAYS a joy to hear the voice of a woman ask me, "Are you ticklish?" Then follow up by using her fingers wherever she elected........one of the ways it sounded so nice was from my friend Lauren the first time she ever tickled my feet....just the way it rolled off her tongue.... "Oooh!! Hey.....are YOUR feet ticklish?" She found out in short order that they were (are) indeed!!!

It was only right...God...the times I'd torture HER soles.... :veryhappy

That word makes me shiver

I know exactly what you mean... :wavingguy
In fact, I signed up for unlimited long distance calling just so I could have tickle conversations! I can't get enough of saying the word tickle or hearing someone else say it. So, anyone want to talk about it? :tickle:

tickle...ticklish...tickling...all of them are wonderful to hear or read. When unable to actually have a tickling "session" sometimes just talking about tickling, and using the word a lot is a "fair" substitute..
