One Side More Ticklish Than The Other?

I recently found out that foot is more ticklish than the other and it seemed pretty weird.

I've known a few ladies like that,i have no idea why its that way.
 
I had some correspondence with Dr. Peter Cahusac, then at Stirling University. He's one of the very few scientists who has done some research on tickling. To me, he mentioned that the effect has probably something to do with the brain hemisphere. The right foot is connected to the left hemisphere, which is responsible for emotions. I bet the same ticklishness difference would apply to the right body hemisphere, but that hasn't been a research topic yet.

Also, he found out that the sensation of tickling is related to itching rather than pain. The brain reactions are different anyway: other brain parts take care of pain, but itching and tickling seem to get processed by the same brain parts.

Our correspondence was very interesting indeed. He even told me he used parts of my "Tickle Enyclopedia" for his lectures! :cool2:
 
I definitely think one of my feet is more ticklish than the other. Although only if I get tickled on the other foot first. Perhaps its only then I notice which one's which. 🙂
 
Of the people I've worked with over the years... it seems almost universal that the left foot is more ticklish than the right (on those who comment about it, and 4 out of 5 patients who chew gum...). That does not seem to hold true on the torso or elsewhere for some reason. I've never had anybody comment that their left or right side (of their body itself) was more than the other but they seem to comment on the left vs right foot often.

I've noticed a number of people in my life who seem to be more ticklish on one foot than the other, though I haven't yet noticed any major differences in armpits, knees, or anything like that yet. Then again, I wasn't paying that much attention at the time.. Hmm.
 
My ticklish sides swing back and forth like a pendulum. Some times my left side is more giggly and some days my right squirms.

In reference to the pendulum metaphor, I'm was referring to the symmetrical alignment of the ticklish body and how it alternates ticklish wise...

...not my "junk".
 
Left foot, right side of body.
Sounds weird, but then, so am I. lol :dog: :upsidedow
 
So far I've experienced that both my feet are equally ticklish as are all other parts of my body.
Does that mean I'm not weird? :xpulcy: :jester:
 
my left side (rib area) is far more ticklish than my right...no idea why but you're not alone

Same here.

I have also found that wearing a toe ring on the second toe of the right foot has made the area under it more sensitive.
 
Mairead, I once knew a girl in college whose left foot was insanely ticklish, and her right foot was hardly ticklish at all. So, yes, I think this situation can happen with some people.

When I had my epidural they hit my syatic nerve. It has taken me 2 years to get the feeling back in my left leg but now my left foot is WAY more ticklish! My right foot is really ticklish but its nothing compaired to the left. I nearly come undone when that one is tickled!<<<<----
 
My girlfriend's right foot is more ticklish than her left and my right hip is more sensitive than my left. Pretty normal I guess.
 
Yep. Me too. The right side is absolutely more ticklish...from head to toe. Go figure!
 
more ticklish on my right side, but at first i thought that was because my right side was the dominant side.. aka me right handed...

Just wondering how common this is.

Anyone have one armpit, foot, leg, ear, side, whatever that's more ticklish than the other? Or has anyone experienced someone that was like this?

I don't think this is very strange. I think many people are this way.

PS. By the way, you would not happen to be into feet ?

My feet are very ticklish in general, but my left is definitely more so...

Dominant Sides

My 'lee's have been more ticklish on the dominant side--the right handed are more ticklish on the right side, for instance. That side has been more sensitive to other stimuli as well.
 
My Back SIde!

Yes, my back side.

Which causes me no end of ticklish delights at the massage therapists.

She is used to me squirming as I try not to giggle and laugh out loud.

A couple of times I have worn long scarves.

But so far, no luck.
