We've all heard about the old biddy who spilled coffee in her lap, and then sued McDonald's for selling her a hazardous product and won $2.7 million bucks. My newspaper reported today that 36 Brits tried to get rich the same way. UK High Court Justice Richard Field ruled against them, saying that they should know that coffee and tea are served hot.
The Brits are way too squeamish about the death penalty, but this case shows that sometimes their legal system works better than ours. Too bad the judge didn't take it a step further, and sentence the 36 and their lawyers to bastinado for wasting the court's time.
