"only ticklish when they want to be"

Have you ever met someone who claimed they were only ticklish "when they want to be?" I've always been kind of fascinated by a person phrasing it that particular way. I can see them saying "I can turn off my ticklishness", but "I'm only ticklish when I want to be", suggest that there are times when they DO want to be ticklish. This is a no-brainer if you're talking about someone with a tickling fetish. But for someone who doesn't have a tickling fetish, does it seem unusual to you that they would have times when they WANT to be ticklish? Either way, I've always found it a fascinating and curious thing to hear someone say. Anyone have any experience with someone who could turn their ticklishness on and off, and did they seem to have times when they DID want to be ticklish?

One of my friends is like that. She says that only certain people can tickle her-typically guys, lol. Also her best friend, and maybe a few other people. We've actually talked about tickling, and she says that she loves to use tickling as a flirting device (and as a way to take revenge on me, lol), so I would assume she'd probably "want" to be ticklish then to pull off the cute, girly act and start a tickle fight. Even I can be like that at times. Now, 99% of the time I definitely want to be ticklish 😛 But when I'm angry, my ticklishness turns off for some reason and I usually don't want to be tickled. I think ticklishness is almost as psychological as it is physical.

I find I'm able to "turn off" my ticklishness when I feel it's about to take over my reflexes just by relaxing, in the same way that you can direct your conscious attention away from the pain sensation (although sometimes it's been so perfect on the tickler's part that that technique went headlong to the wind).

I've also had a friend who I've come to be able to tickle very well who initially told me she wasn't ticklish (and apparently wasn't at the time).

Well...

I had a girlfriend like that for a while...She admitted she liked it when I tickled her but she had very good control over it, so when she didn't want it to work, it just didn't. On the bright side, I eventually got to a situation where she was wearing nothing but some very short pyjama shorts (no bra) and asking me to tickle her. And of course, a gentleman must oblige. 🙂

In my mind, turning it off and being ticklish when you want to be are the same, I don't see a difference in the meanings.

Frankly this is most people I know, especially women, and the fetish has nothing to do with it. Tickling is more mental than some folks around here would care to admit; if you don't like the 'ler and can't let your guard down and allow the sensations to wash over you then you're not going to be 'ticklish'. Twitchy maybe, but that's not the same as the lovely laughing reaction that we seek, in my opinion.

You *want* to be ticklish when you want the interaction and experience of being vulnerable to tickling by that person/in that situation, it's about trust and comfort, and non-fetish people can enjoy it as much as we do
