We have just had the final treatment of bed bugs that were discovered in my room on the last Saturday in February. We've never had bed bugs before & our nice neighbor recommended an exterminator. It was such a pain because it was mostly in my room so in the early stage, I had to empty all my drawers, wash my clothes in hot water, put them in bags, drag them up two flights of stairs since I live on the lowest level of the house . I had to sleep in my sleeping bag in our living room that isn't used much.
My parents had to throw out my mattress, sheets, pillows & pillow cases. The mattress cover was the only thing that was saved. My parents had to replace all those things. I'll be back to sleeping in my room shortly :excited:! According to what our exterminator said, all the bed bugs in my room are now dead!
We are going to the exterminator come in the next few months to check & make sure everything is okay.

I wonder if anyone else on here has had bed bugs and how you dealt with getting rid of them.

:eeew: That sounds like a pain. I'm glad they're all gone now, though. I've never had bed bugs, but this story kind of makes me want to clean my room...

Thanks for your empathy Smeg. I am really surpised that my thread had had 54 views so far according to the computer and that nobody else has commented. I think that's really insensitive :frustrated:! This is a SERIOUS PROBLEM PEOPLE! This has been going on in our house for about a month. This seems to be happening more and more these days when I begin a thread, it takes a long time for people to respond and I don't get many responses.

I hope this doesn't happen to any of you. I also got bit by them too but I didn't realize it came from a bed bug. My bites have healed, thank goodness. Hopefully, if my parents and I don't see any more bed bugs in the next few days, I'll move back in my room. In the meanwhile, I am sleeping in the living room on my new mattress with a sleeping bag.

I saw a documentary about bed bugs. They are a pain to get rid of..almost like getting rid of fleas. Sorry, you had to go through that. Sometimes I wonder what is the purpose of certain insects that were created by the Maker.

I knew some people who got bed bugs. They're gross, but calling people insensitive because they didn't respond with sympathy is not going to warm people up to the idea.

Sorry about the infestation.

Well, the fact that only a few people have responded on here shows a huge lack of concern for a problem that has been a huge inconvenience to our family, especially me since most of them were in my room. I am sorry, I don't mean to piss anyone off, however that's my opinion and I am entitled to it just like anyone else. Well, at least there's three people who give a crap about me on the website :wow:. I mean if you had bed bugs chicago or anyone else on here, I don't think you would be too happy either :disgust:.

A lot of people on here need to work on their empathy skills. To those who have responded so far, thanks for your support :goodjob:.

I wouldn't be too happy, no, but I probably wouldn't make a thread about it and then complain about lack of responses. Everyone has problems, I guess I just don't consider mine any more important than the next persons.

Well chicago, the main point of me writing the thread is to get support from people in this very difficult and challenging time in our lives. It's not just this thread that I am complaining about, it's a few of the others too. It's just that I see other people complain about things & most of the time they get a decent enough responses. I feel sad that our family crisis isn't interesting enough for most people to care about.

I'm sorry you don't have more of a following or a feeling of being special. Maybe calling people insensitive makes them not want to respond. Good luck with your bed bugs and interactions here. Its a shame the support you do get doesn't seem to pacify.

I am glad for the people who have supported me. However, since this situation is costing us a fortune because of all the stuff we need to replace & since Mom's credit is good, we are able to do it. I am just surprised that I didn't get more responses is all.

By the way, what this thread teaches me, us something that I already knew, is that not everyone is going to see eye to eye on things. Not everyone is meant to get along but whatever.

I haven't had bedbugs. I hope I never do have them. Someone in the building across from mine did have them. Had to throw out his mattress, all his stuff was in plastic bags on his front patio for weeks (in all kinds of weather). Had people dressed in haz-mat suits in and out of his place on several occasions (exterminators?).

Makes me want to invest very heavily in DDT...or something much worse...

I frequent thrift shops in search of affordable clothing. I feel paranoid doing so, even though anything I buy gets put into a sealed bag, THEN gets washed and heat-dried.

As for you, GWL2L, I'm sorry for your financial losses, not to mention the loss of peace of mind which comes with this kind of personal violation.

Oh yeah, called up my insurance company. Apparently renter's insurance does not cover losses from bedbugs.

I'm not sure if we even have them here in the PNW. Sounds like a pain in the butt. I hope everything's all fine now. My only experience with bedbugs is this... I'd be sleeping over at a friend's house when I was younger. He'd say "Oh man, you have bedbugs!" I'd look at him really confused, and that's when I'd be jumped and tickled. That... That was a game I didn't exactly enjoy. Evil bastard.

We have basically got rid of most of those buggers (that's what my Dad calls them) execpt for a few that we seen lately. When one of us sees them, we wrap it up in a tissue and flush them down the toilet. It's taking a while to get rid of them because I suspect we've had them since last fall. I googled about them online and they do reproduce quickly, so we're still working on it but it's getting better :excited:.

right on..

do you where they came from?

Ah, bed bugs, the SCOURGE of homes EVERYWHERE! Yes, I know exactly what you went though. My single bedroom apartment suffered from bed bugs until I got tired of waking up with red welts from bites every morning and just threw the mattress, sheets, pillows, pillow cases, and everything else that was related to the bed OUT INTO THE DUMPSTER and then told my landlord if he didn't spray my apartment with something STRONG both that month and the next month I'd be suing him (regardless if he threw me out on my ass or not). So, yeah, new pillows, new mattress, new sheets, new pillow cases, and two sprayings later I can safely say I'm bed bug free. It cost me a pretty penny though. Yikes! 🙁

It's really hard to say where they came from because our exterminator said it could've came from three typical places like a hotel, movie theater or restaurant. He said they're hitchikers and go onto things that are on the floor like clothes, purses, suitcases, anything along those lines. We haven't seen any in about a week so hopefully they're all gone.

got my fingers crossed

hi. I know what u are going through. I dealt with a bedbug infestation in my apartment in 2010. One night I noticed a few bugs on my bed. It turned into a nightmare. Like you, I had to wash all of my clothes in hot water and then bag them. I threw out basically all of my furniture. It turned out the bugs came into my bedroom from the apartment next door. It took 3 visits from the exterminator over a 4 month period to get rid of them. I never felt comfortable in that apartment again and moved out a year later. People joke about bedbugs but they take a mental and financial toll on you. I almost went insane stressing over them. I wish you luck in getting rid of them.

This reminds me of why I'm glad to be out of apartment life. God damn neighbors need to clean they shit!
