OK, I have been a sports fan, particularly football, all my life. Background: I was raised by two Ohio State University football maniacs, but somehow, I turned out to be a University of Michigan fan. I think John Cooper's coaching ethics ruined OSU for me. I've participated in a plethora of different sports not up to but including rugby, equestrian sports, softball and lacrosse. I've never been able to play football because I have boobies. To the point, this thread is being created so that we the people may bitch about the most hated icon in the sports world: umpires, referees, line judges, chair refs, and so forth.
I am sure that I am not the only disgruntled fan in the masses, and I will begin this thread with something that disturbs me the most: NFL referees. These ill thoughts have been triggered by the Monday Night Football game that just ended, Patriots vs Vikings. There were two key plays in this game that were reviewed by the officials as a result of a coach's challenge. A pass was dropped by a tight end in purple in the third quarter. He caught the pass, maintained possession of the ball, was taken down by the corner, the ball was forced out, and rolled out of bounds. At first, the call was that the pass was incomplete. This was insane, considering the receiver took at least 2-3 steps with the ball in his hands before it was forced out.
Obviously, the Vikings coach threw the red flag, and the play was reviewed. Even the announcers watched and insured their audience that the play would be overturned, and the ball would be placed where it had gone out of bounds, giving the Vikings a converted third down to the Patriots 20 yard line. Unfortunately for us, the idiot under the hood decided that the pass was incomplete, forcing the Vikings to go for it on fourth down. They of course failed, and the Patriots take over on downs.
I for one am really sick of these calls being made by 80 year old men who can't even see the hash marks on the field! I have seen some of the worst calls in the past few years on the football field, and I can't believe that these are the people they have making the important calls on the field. Holding calls are made when defenders barely brush their fingers over a jersey!!!!!!
Anyways, if you yourself have a rant like mine that involves the incompetence of a black and white striped buffoon, please, let me know that I'm not the only disgruntled sports fan out there. Forget screening for teachers, we need screening for officials!!!!!!!
