Pain and Sadism

There were two underlying topics that were going on, Skip. One involving LD specifically and one about sadism and tickling. That's what happens in conversations. You talk about one topic and another related one is bound to come up.

For example, I started talking about my view of tickling, then you brought up the fact that your mom hating being tickled, someone else alluded to the fact that some people hate being tickled as well, etc. This furthered the topic of tickling and its relationship to sadism as a whole. The conversation wasn't strictly about LD's personal experience the whole time and involved other people's experience of tickling as well.

Those are what we call "examples" and are used to illustrate the main point.

Regardless, I'll say it again for you, no one suggested that tickling, as a whole, is inherently sadistic, except for you.

Tickling can be sadistic, just like orgasm denial can be. It's not always about inflicting or causing pain, it's about witnessing/reveling in the results of your actions. Whether they are done through a solid flogging and the sub is covered with marks and in subspace, or a really solid tickling where the 'lee is begging through her laughter for it to stop.

Tickling someone who hates it can be viewed as a Sadistic act, but tickling someone who gets off on it but continuously begs for it to stop can also be exercising forms of Sadism.

I didn't realize you were contributing to a different conversation. It sounded as though your points were intended to contradict those who had been saying that tickling, as I like it, is indeed sadistic. That's all.

Oh no. lol. I wasn't saying in this instance it's not possibly a form of sadism. (Although I honestly couldn't say it is with absolute certainty because of the way the DSM defines sadism. Plus, I'm skeptical about its use of "suffering".) 1

I was also just being verbally lazy when I wrote some of those posts. Thursday, I finished up a paper about Merleau-Ponty's Visible and The Invisible, so I was pretty mentally spent this weekend.

What I was trying to wrap my head around while having the discussion, although it wasn't explicitly stated in my posts, is what is the "essence" of a tickle "fetish"? Because tickling isn't always sadistic it can't possibly belong to the sadism category. Even though it can be interchangeable with sadism, what tickling is, in-itself, has to be something different than sadism.

I mean:

Stuff that causes pain, like cuts, the whip, paddles could technically cause wounds. Tickling can't.
Neither does electricity.

Tickling can be sadistic, just like orgasm denial can be. It's not always about inflicting or causing pain, it's about witnessing/reveling in the results of your actions. You're so lovable. 🙂

Hm, not such a good example...if it's done wrong, electricity can cause burns and death!
Which is why that kind of electricity (high amperage and usually AC) isn't used in kinky play. The sort that is used comes from sources like TENS units and violet wands, and about the worst damage you can get from those are muscle cramps and a very mild sunburn, respectively.

Still, when we hear electricity, we don't associate very nice things with it. You think the electric chair or your think of mental asylums where they tried to heal people with electric shocks.

Tickling usually doesn't trigger thoughts like that.

That's the thing about fetishes and associations. Some people associate electrocution with nice things and some people associate tickling with nice things, while still others see both as completely fucking horrible.

Hmmm....I can see what nice and not nice things people associate with tickling (while I still think the majority of people doesn't like it for prolonged periods of time), but it's really hard for me to find an example of good associations with electrocution. How could you possibly have a good experience with that if you don't like the feeling per se?

I'll field this one. 😀

Yesterday I had electricity shot through both my nipples. It was fucking painful.

I also enjoyed every second of it. I've never felt more alive.

Sorry I've lost track of the conversation... you're saying that tickling, in the broader sense, is more versatile and less specialized than electrocution? In that there's an obvious and common usage of tickling that's friendly, whereas only fetishists would be pro-electrocution? I'd agree, but what's the significance of that you're trying to convey?

Seriously? You pain junkies baffle me.

Yes, that's what I am trying to say, and I guess I am trying to point out why someone would like sadistic tickling but flinch to the idea of pain. (I think...I lost track too... 🙂 )

I dunno about sadism.

I might would like to get whipped and have candlewax dripped on me and all that jazz.

I couldnt honestly say, never had it done.

Then again, never been tickled longer than 30 seconds either.

Guess I have no clue about anything..

..Carry on.
