Inside his upstairs bedroom, Blake’s environment is set up specifically to make him a better gamer. There is a PlayStation 2, a Nintendo Wii and an Xbox 360. He also has a stack of plastic guitars, but no real ones. Blake doesn’t play an actual guitar, a skill that doesn’t really transfer to playing the virtual kind, anyway.

The frame for his bed is on the back porch, with the box springs and mattress on the bedroom floor. That puts his bed at a more comfortable level for sitting to play "Guitar Hero III" for extended periods. At the moment, he plays just a few hours a day, but that number will increase as the California competition nears.

Blake seems happy with his home school arrangement, as you would expect from a teenager who is allowed to stay up into the wee hours to play video games. Sometimes, when Mike heads to the gym before 5 a.m., his son is still playing video games. Blake calls it working "the late shift."

He didn’t enjoy school, he says, and especially didn’t like the rules associated with attending the Christian academy. Shaggy hair is more his style.

He’s good at video games. "I wasn’t really good at anything else that I liked."

As a gamer myself, I'm not quite sure how I feel about this...:idunno:

If you go to any big engineering department in Corporate America, you'll see a disturbing portion of the engineers are from India and the middle east. This kid is a perfect example of why.

I like video games but i also like a social life...I wished i was able to skip school and play video games all day but i knew that would never happen, since i also wanted to go to university so i saved my gaming sessions for holiday and the odd weekend with free time.

As for your statement drew the kid is spoilt and lazy but the reason you see middle eastern/indian workers in these engineering jobs is because they accept a lower pay.

Words fail me here.I really don't know what to say.:sowrong:

The ultimate in parents catering to a kid who wants to do nothing. He's going to get far in the world.

wow...parents failed, kid failed. what is it they are trying to promote? "Yeah, school sucked for ya, so we'll permit you to have no social life, and to get fat and sluggish as you try to beat Liquid Snake.". that is not a healthy environment in the slightest, and i'm surprised the C.P.A. isn't bangin' down the doors.

Hey, leave my brother out of this! :manicd:

In all seriousness all I can say is wow. It's people [and parents] like this that make America a disgrace. The entire family needs to be tazed with cattle prods.

you know, i hated school. absolutely hated it from first grade until the time i graduated high school.....barely. there's no way in hell my parents would allow this to go on, like ever. i'm really at kind of a loss. in a way i'm not really surprised that it's happening. and this is coming from a guy that lives in a state that has one of the highest drop out rates in the country and only a 67% graduation rate. jeez...

the reason is stupid, but at the same time they really didnt let him drop out from what i just read. he's geting his education at home..which is actually better and safer than schools these days with the degenerates that inhabit them (and the teachers get more and more wrong every year - even worse than when i was in school back in the early 80s).

however, on the other hand, i think these folks are losers with a capitol L. simply cause of the fact that they had to make a big world wide media deal about it to get themselves attention. thats the most pathetic part of all of this.

He'll think this is a great idea until he gets his arse whooped by some 11 year old Asian kid who manhandles him online while simultaneously making himself a sandwich and doing his math homework.

We do fucking rule, us Asians...

Though I think the poor sod should go outside, cut back on his porklife and get some excersise. There's more to life than video gaming, and the sooner he realises it the better.

As somebody who more or less got out of school and sat here playing video games for a good part of my life, I say good on him. He'll learn the ways of the "world" eventually. For now, let him have some fun.

No matter what road is taken, life teaches everybody.

at least get the most up-to-date fucking console,

Or a really kick-ass older one, like a SNES or Genesis. :woot: (I guess Wii kinda takes care of that, though , with the "virtual console" thing lol )
