How did all of this go on and Jo Pa did not know..?

Bull. Shit.

Penn State's president abruptly canceled Joe Paterno's weekly news conference Tuesday amid increasing calls for both men to resign in the wake of a former assistant coach's sex-abuse scandal and as another potential victim came forward.

The news conference was to be the first chance for reporters to ask Paterno about what he knew about Jerry Sandusky, his former defensive coordinator and one-time heir apparent, who was indicted on charges of sexually abusing eight boys over 15 years.

"Due to the ongoing legal circumstances centered around the recent allegations and charges, we have determined that today's press conference cannot be held and will not be rescheduled," assistant Athletic Director Jeff Nelson said in a statement.

Jim Rome has called it the single worst scandal in college football history. I almost agree. It also shows that corruption runs deep in college football.

“May no act of ours bring shame...”

This brave undergraduate pretty much sums up how I have been feeling since Sunday, so I won't try to say anything else .... it's a very, very sad day .....

Scandal tarnishes PSU's brand
By Emily Kaplan

In a couple years we’ll be alumni, driving back to State College for football Saturdays.

Before kickoff, we’ll stand with the other 100,000-plus Nittany Lion faithful at Beaver Stadium and sing our alma mater. We’ll recite the lyrics, which are about respect, integrity and success with honor — the foundations Penn State prides itself on.

But I can’t help but wonder what those words will mean in two years, or beyond.

I can’t help but fear that everything we once proudly believed is now tainted because of one man’s alleged disgustingly reprehensible actions and others apparently concealing the crimes for fear it would tarnish the university’s brand. And these men were supposed to be leaders, true blue and white.

So in a couple years, we will sing the song, but perhaps with a dual meaning.

For the glory of old state...

For the school that has supposedly valued integrity off the field over success on the field. For the school which proudly promotes that it has never committed a major NCAA violation, has one of the highest student-athlete graduation rates in the nation and the No. 1 student section in the country.

For her founders strong and great...

For the legends that built this school and the leaders that maintained it. For those decision-makers who thought it was more important to preserve an unblemished reputation than do the right thing and find justice for a victim.

For the future that we wait...

For the weight that our degrees hold based off of the connotations — good or bad — that go along with Penn State University.

And then we’ll get to the line, “May no act of ours bring shame...” and I’ll pause.

Because no matter what happens from here, no matter what allegations prove to be true or false, no matter who resigns or who steps forward, Penn State’s name will forever be tarnished.

There will be no dual meanings here, just one image flashing through my mind: The image of a stomach-turning 23-page grand jury report.

In there are graphic descriptions of how former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky — revered enough that he was once considered Joe Paterno’s likely successor — abused his power and sexually abused eight boys over a 15 year period.

In there are allegations that two, high-ranking Penn State officials — Athletic Director Tim Curley and Interim Senior Vice President for Finance and Business Gary Shultz — heard about Sandusky sexually assaulting a young boy in a team locker room shower. But Curley and Shultz didn’t alert state or county officials.

What did they do instead? Allegedly, Curley simply told Sandusky he wasn’t allowed to bring children on campus any more.

So it’s OK to break the law as long as it’s not on Penn State’s watch and not in a facility decorated with the prestigious Nittany Lion emblem? What exactly is that message?

For the Glory...

We scoffed last summer when Ohio State coach Jim Tressel was forced to step down amid NCAA violations regarding a tattoo-parlor scandal. Could never happen here, we thought. Would never happen under Joe Paterno.

We condemn Southern Methodist University for having the most allegations and violations in NCAA history. We’ve never had one major violation. Penn State would never allow players to receive under the table payments.

Well, it’s been 24 seasons since the NCAA imposed the “death penalty” on SMU and canceled their 1987 season. But even today, Southern Methodist University is synonymous with scandal.

These type of things don’t go away quickly — if ever.

It’s going to take one heck of a PR campaign, more than a few heartfelt apologies and maybe a couple resignations for everything to be OK again at Penn State. Even then, it may never be the same.

But all I know is two, maybe more years from now, the alma mater will sound a lot different than it did in the beginning of this season.

May our lives but swell thy fame. Dear old State, dear old State.

I've been hearing about this virtually non stop since it happened. WPVI TV in Philadelphia has been having a ton of coverage on the subject.

WPVI lead anchor Jim Gardner, while addressing the scandal, posted one question on his Facebook page, having not even to do with Jerry Sandusky, the man accused of the inappropriate sexual contact, , or the others accused in a cover up.

Gardner's question was simply: Did Joe Paterno do enough, and what should happen to him?

Here's how I see things, breaking it down.

If he's found guilty and convicted of the crimes he's being accused of.., Jerry Sandusky should get life in prison with no chance of parole. If he is found guility, the man would then be convicted as a serial sexual predator of children.. with no conscience.

The coaches who knew about it, and covered it up, should also get long prison terms. How does someone know of crimes so hanieous, and not report them?

Joe Paterno, with as storied a coach as he is, probably should retire after this season. This situation would probably tarnish his legacy. It would seem that Penn State needs new leadership after this, from top to bottom.

Did anyone catch that fucked up "pep rally" at Jo Pa's house? Disgraceful, concerning the situation. Then announces he's going to retire at the end of the season....WTF? How about yesterday?

Those simple white helmets and uniforms were one of my favorite icons in sports. Now it's been stained, perhaps forever.

Tressel is in Indianapolis wiping the sweat off his brow as we speak...........

Well, everyone that was willing to barbeque him over his unconscionable acts is sure quiet now aren't they? At least he could land on his feet while everyone involved in this disgusting hot mess should or will be landing in jail or the unemployment line.

Breaking News:

I just read on Comcast.net that Penn State President Graham Spanier, and Head Coach Joe Paterno. have both been fired, effective immediately.

To me, these were probably the right moves. In reality, we will probably never really know, who knew what, about the scandal. The school is trying to at least take some form of serious action, in light of all that has gone on.

Mitch

:Another update:

The information I posted before about Paterno and Spanier both being fired, is what I read on Comcast news.net. I just finished watching the 11pm news from Philadelphia, and saw the actual announcement about the situation. The announcement said that Paterno had been fired, and that PSU President Graham Spanier had "Resigned". Bottom line, they are both out, but I just wanted to post the correct information.

It's a sad sad time for Penn State University I'm not a fan of Penn State by any means, But all of the victims those little boys now young men and all of their family's and loved ones what they went through and are going through now all over again with all of this news and accusations and riots going on now at Penn State University. At the end of the day it's about these young boys and their family's and family members for them to see justice served and see justice done and for our prayers and a lot of them. And hopefully some smoke and dust will be cleared and be pieced together more when the justice system runs it course. They did the right thing in my opinion to fire both JoPa and The President of the University and all of those students rioting because of what the trustee board did about the way they handled the firing of JoPa is saddening and displeasing. Protesting is one thing but as most protesting go their seems to always has to be a few knuckle heads in the protesting crowd of shouts and cheers that has to take it to the riot level.

It's a terrible situation all around and to have JoPa go out this way is not the way I'm sure he would have wanted to go out after all that he's done for the university but somebody should have done more done something when JoPa or whoever heard about the accusations of the Sexual abuse charges against Jerry Sandusky and what he was doing to those little boys at the time at his run Youth Camp etc.. It's about those family's and not about JoPa's career / his career records as a coach.

If it were me I would surely speak out and speak up and tell the police and not tell a campus group of police or campus security. I'd do something. Sports aren't perfect and sports scandals will continue to happen (on every level). But for me anyways this is probably the biggest scandal I've heard of happening from the NCAA. But with all of that said above, I'm still going to be a fan of sports NCAA and otherwise. All I can do is prayer for all involved.

On a latter note roll U of O against Luck and the Stanford fugly Trees this Saturday :stirthepot:

I know I don't produce family entertainment...I use computer technology to create beautiful women in bondage. It's not what anyone would call squeaky clean. Kinky...absolutely. Perverted...fuck no. I don't intend to hurt anyone with my artwork.

But I want to believe that a living and loving God exists. There is unspeakable evil around us, and I feel so powerless to combat and defeat it. This is one of the worst things I have ever known. Children are easy and impressionable targets for degenerates. I'm hurting for these kids whose lives were utterly destroyed in one moment. I feel nothing but rage for those who enabled it and knew about it. While listening to ESPN radio, my eyes were welling up with sorrow.

How the FUCK does Sandusky get out on bail?
