Busy week, so I didn't get to do my usual preamble, but the results were fairly even-handed.
The whole night was apparently KO after KO after KO. Only two of the nine fights went the distance. Marcus Davis, Alessio Sakara, Antoni Hardonk and Wilson Gueiva put their opponents away standing up, which is no surprise.
Jorge Riveria KO's Kendall Grove. Mad props to Riveria. If Grove wants to stay in the UFC in any capacity, he's got to get his act together. Back-to-back losses don't impress.
Werdum strikes down Gonzaga in the 2nd for a TKO. WOW. If anything, I had Werdum by Submission. Werdum has improved his game a ton since the Arlovski fight. Gonzaga needs to win the next one or he's done. Werdum may see a title shot before the year is out.
Joe Stevenson did all he could, but BJ Penn has proven to the world that he is the best 155er out there. Here's hoping he can do the same against Sherk, which if Hughes is any indication, he will.
As for upcoming stuff, I really have no interest in the Heavyweight fight coming up between Sylvia and Nogueira. Neither can beat Couture. Lesnar/Mir will be interesting if nothing else. I'm actually really looking forward to the Horn/Marquardt fight. Should be a ground war.
