Pete Rose Earns More Than $1 Million A Year. Signing Autographs.

I read articles on several sources today which state that, since 2005, Pete Rose has been earning in excess of one million dollars a year, doing autograph shows, about 25 days a month, several hours a day. The price per autograph by Rose ranges anywhere from $75 to as much as $800 an item.

Interesting. Considering he can have no baseball related job, and doesn't qualify for what probably would be an at least six figure pension that retired players and managers get.. he has to earn a living somehow.

As long as everybody who pays for his signature is a consenting adult, I have no problem with this.

Back in 1999, I went to an autograph show and paid $80 for Sandy Koufax to sign his 1966 book.

I was just reading about the baseball pension program. As I suspected, Rose is losing out on a $100, 000 plus pension by being permanently banned. The page I read said that players (Probably modern ones) with as little as a month of major league service, qualify for a $34,000 baseball pension in retirement, and that it is not uncommon for a player like Rose with more than a decade of service to receive a six figure pension.

As the all time leader in games played, at bats, and hits, if he's missing out on such money from what would have been his baseball pension, he has every right to earn as much money as he can, as long as he does so honestly.
