We had discussed this subject not long ago.

As we approach the 25th anniversary of Pete Rose' ban from baseball, it is being written that he wants to be reinstated.

I've been a true baseball fan for 30 years, since I was 13 years old..

While I know what Pete Rose did was an extremely serious offense.. I also believe that he has served his time, and should be reinstated.

Think of history.. 25 years ago , when Pete Rose was banned, 65 year old George Herbert Walker Bush was a few months into his term as president. Now, he's a 90 year old man.

Bill Clinton was an unknown southern governor.

Barack Obama, was a young African American man, who hadn't yet even received his Law /JD Degree, and who could only dream, that he would be the first African American to be President of the United States.

Night time soap operas Dallas, and Knots Landing, were still on the air.

Hall of Famers like Greg Maddux, and Tom Glavine were still relatively young pitchers.. not yet having achieved the greatness that would land them both as 300 game winners, and in the Hall of Fame. '

This was a LONG time ago.

I've said it before, and will say it again. People who have committed pre meditated murder,. have served less time than Pete Rose has.

I believe, he has served his punishment, should be re instated, and elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, in his first year of re instatement, based on his career total of 4256 hits, that no other player has, or will likely ever, surpass.

I expect strong reaction to this post. I'm ready for the discussion.

Pete Rose should be in the Hall for his un-juiced hits record.

However, there is this...and he was well aware of this...

BETTING ON BALL GAMES. Any player, umpire, or club official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has no duty to perform shall be declared ineligible for one year. Any player, umpire, or club or league official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform shall be declared permanently ineligible.
-- MLB Rule 21(d)

Pete Rose was an excellent baseball player, but he was also a total fucking prick. He never cheated on the game as a player, which I honor. I will never honor a jerkoff who knowingly broke the rules.

The cheating by Bonds, Clemens and the other dirt bags does not make Rose's offense any cleaner.

I believe that the rule "shall be declared permanently ineligible" is appropriate and should be carried out. Let him be inducted into the Hall of Fame after he is dead, so he won't have the satisfaction of seeing it happen.

PS: Joe Jackson has been dead for a long time and he should be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

As someone who's from Cincinnati, I can tell you he's still a godlike hero around here. My mother was at Riverfront stadium the night he broke Ty Cobb's record. I grew up watching and being a fan of the Big Red Machine in the 70s (but hated Pete Rose... I was a Johnny Bench fan). I still don't know if he should be re-instated or inducted into the Hall of Fame. Oh, and his son (who sold steroids and did do jail time) went to my high school - he was about two years older than I am I believe. So it's personal for folks here. And personally... meh, I don't care. Let him sit back and sell his autograph and hawk memorabilia. And his haircuts are infamous.... from his page boy bowl cut to his spike military looks, none of them look good.

The Big Red Machine was a powerhouse we'll never see again...

Pete Rose, Joe Morgan, Johnny Bench, Tony Perez, George Foster, Davey Concepcion, Ken Griffey and Cesar Geronimo.

Every boy in the 1970s knew all their names. This was the man possible...
