Phillies Pitcher Robin Roberts passes away

Baseball lost another legend today when Phillies Hall of Fame pitcher Robin Roberts passed away at the age of 82. A lot can be said about one of the game's all time greats but one statistic that jumped out to me was that Robin pitched TWENTY-EIGHT CONSECUTIVE COMPLETE GAMES from August 1952 to July 1953. I realize it was a different era but that is still amazing.

I have a Topps baseball card with Robin Roberts in a Yankee uniform. He had s brief stint with them in spring training but never pitched in the regular season for them. He played in an era where #1 and #2 starters regulary pitched 7 or more innings and completed many a game including extra innings.

Pitch counts are complete bullshit.

Robby had six twenty win seasons in a row. It's fair to say he'd have won 4 out of 6 Cy Youngs if they actually had the award at that time (the first winner of the award was Don Newcombe in 1956). He was the Catfish Hunter of his day-both were remarkably similar in presentation.

Robin Roberts was a good man- he will indeed be missed.

A great pitcher. Stunning stat is 350 Complete Games ( Think about that 350 CG ) and 286 career wins. Great pitcher. Great career. We will never see the guts that Robin Roberts displayed in his career ever again. RIP Robin!
