I think your drive is seriously messed up. If you can get all the stuff off of it, I'd advise wiping it clean and reinstalling the OS and all other programs. If it is just a data corruption and not a physical error, that should do it.

I believe I've discovered the problem. I found a duplicate My Documents folder in my Start Menu folder. I must have inadvertently dragged it into the Start Menu folder. As soon as I make sure that there are no files/folders in there that are not in the 'REAL' one, I'm going to just delete it and see what happens. I'll leave it in the recycling bin in case I have to recover it.

problem solved...full restore completed a short time ago...hopefully all the backup's worked fine...!!
