As I've posted before, my mom has to be up in NJ no later than a week from next Monday, to begin radiation. The details are starting to come together, I believe.
I dont recall if I posted that the cost of a long term care facility near the hospital she is being treated at, is off the charts. So.. with this in mind, we called several hotels in the area, to see if they have long term arrangements for rooms. We did find a few, with room rates, and continental breakfast included, that will be at least somewhat less astronomical than a hotel.
The doctors put my mom in touch with a "social worker", who royally pissed us off. Instead of trying to be helpful, my mom said this witch was condescending, wanting to know "why my mom isn't being treated in Lancaster". It's like, duh, bitch.. because.. the doctors here misdiagnosed my mom, and she is already on the treatment plan of the Denville, NJ, doctors, and needs to undergo radiation with the initial doctor we got in touch with from NJ last June. How the hell can she do that, if she's treated in Lancaster?!
Another issue that didn't cross my mind until just tonight. Obviously, we know that anyone can get sick anywhere.. but.. the long term care facility, is essentially.. a type of nursing home.. where patients are all on top of each other. Luckily, my mom's white cell count hasn't been compromised by her chemo up until now.. but.. I still dont want to take a chance.
So, that's the situation up to now. We have to meet with the Dr on Friday, to find out the exact treatment schedule, and then make arrangements. My mom is still very unsettled about being in this situation for six weeks, but.. the most important thing is.. to get her treated in the right way.. to keep her moving along in the right direction that she God willing seems to be headed in up until now.
Thanks again to all who have supported me through this. I will post any further updates as needed.
