Please Say You Think This One's Funny

I heard this joke on an old Redd Foxx album, but everyone I told it to didn't get it. I think it's funny, so here it is:

A guy walks into a resturant and sits down. The waitress comes over and says, "Hi sir, how can I help you?"

The man says, "give me a cup of coffee with no cream."

The waitress leaves, looks all around the kitchen, but can't find any cream.

She comes back out and says to the guy, "sorry sir, we don't have any cream, would you like it without milk?"


Sorry, but that's great!

I must be missing something

If the guy did not want cream, then why was the waitress looking for cream?

I do however get the concept that she was so dumb that she thought milk and cream were different things.

Yes, it is funny except I do not get the first part.
