Please, Tax help - the numbers don't make sense!

I'm going over the paperwork and it doesn't make sense...are there any CPA's here or anyone who is good with tax forms that I can PM with for a little bit to help me figure this out?

I'm not a tax expert but I can help with what I know. Are you planning to file online? Many of those programs will give you answer help and some will even have real time chat assistants to help you.

Haha, well I am just looking for procedural information, not any disclosures or anything.

For instance, turbotax says my return will be $28, but by W2 says I have over $1,500 federal withheld, so that doesn't make any sense!

Have you checked with the IRS website?Not that i trust those idiots either,but it might be a place to start.

I know your withholding is 1500, but there are other things to consider:

Filing status
W2 vs 1099
number of dependents (if any)
other expenditures or forms of income

You're welcome to PM me; I used to use turbo tax but have had my taxes done privately since I became a homeowner. Just easier that way.

And bugman, there are plenty of accountants on the forum and as long as the questions are general in nature, I don't see a huge problem.

Speaking of the IRS:

If you are near your Federal Building, IRS will do your taxes for free. Just make an appointment and they'll fill them out. You'll probably have to e-file them but I'm not sure.

You were self-employed this past year, right? With Viper Productions and such? Might be something to do with it. There is a separate self-employment tax, so federal might be taking some of that money you made.

I had to pay federal some money because of my work with MTJ. I used TurboTax and was confused so I called the IRS (which you can find a number to online) and they said it was correct.
