Just a random thought. Should there be more poking in tickling? You know when someone stalks behind someone and pokes their sides and the person jumps? How about that but over and over again. Maybe on the ribs or on the armpits. One single finger on each side, continually poking.

Its a good point. It's something you rarely see in videos even though it's a common starter method for tickling.

Poking can work, but it’s not as effective if the person is bracing for it. Meaning it can still tickle, but the reaction will not match if it were done outside of a tickle session/shoot

I agree. I love to do this! Reactivity varies between lees, but most relatively sensitive ones give wonderful reactions if you poke in seemingly random places all over the upper body. I think for certain people it is harder to get used to than stroking across a wider area. Like, as you stroke, sure it tickled, but the brain does a better job of predicting where that finger or tool is going. With the rapid succession of poking, I've seen it induce a panic-like state pretty quickly. It's even so much worse when blindfolded. It really gets me good, too. Back when I was in school I used to sneak up on a girl and do this to her sides or back. She would nearly jump through the ceiling. At the same time, there are some fairly ticklish people that this has much less effect on. I guess that's just another example of how there's no golden formula for tickling.

One time my former colleague did this to me as I was having a conversation with another colleague unbeknownst to me of course. She poked me and was like “ Hi Katie”. I just jumped really high as I was at work so wanted to remain professional but was like “ OMG! X Hi.” Then we just started talking normally … I haven’t seen you all day … lol I’m also glad I didn’t fart either 🤣.

Do people think poking makes a difference with nails or not?

I have agree normally I would use poking to just surprise someone so more in the form of a greeting…however that being said, I have mixed up it up with other tickling techniques for example a scribble with one’s fingers tips into a person underarms or hips, slowly, then change to the more rapid machine gun poking along one’s ribs or tummy. That way, you can keep the person your tickling on their ticklish toes hehe as their brain process different techniques and different speeds!

I have a cute female colleague who would very occasionally surprise me in less formal settings by tickling my ribs from behind. I always appreciated it as playful sign of affection. I definitely appreciated it more when she had shorter fingernails! 😀

In clips, when a ticklee is standing arms overhead and the tickler is behind, soft pokes and pinches are great for getting them a little jumpy before the 'main course.' Pokes and pinches can be a great appetiser.

It definately is effective. Not only can I poke my wife at times all over and it tickles, but I poke her soles too and she flinches. It has even made her giggle before.

You got me twitching just thinking about THE POKES. Its a very effective technique, and makes the lee jumpy, and giddy for another round of laughter.

I used to work with a woman (Tracy) that liked to sneak up, and do the pokes whenever she could get away with it. Her tickles and teases were super effective, and she knew how to use the poke as an intro to her forward tickle pranks.🤩

I would get her back at times with the pokes and she enjoyed the attention.
Great times.🤘

You too? The woman who tickled me wasn't a great tickler but she is very pretty so I wasn't going to complain. Obviously I was never going to report her to HR.

There's an amusing scenario. You report her to H.R. and they have her come into the office for a little discussion. Only it turns into a poking gauntlet where the hot H.R. secretary and the initial "pokers" teach you a long hard lesson in why you don't just snitch on people.😂

Can't say that I would ever learn my lesson, but they can do their best.👈😘

Ohh this! @Triple_M I think you and I have such a familiar weakness for these pokes that you are talking about! I have been in this situation before, where someone would have held my hand ahead and then another person would sit behind me and give me those pokes up and down my sides and ribs.

Right from the start, the pokes have me jumping in place, shaking, twisting, but because my hands are held, there's nowhere to go! After every poke, I would try to beg them to stop, but before I recover from the laughter and tickle sensation to form any words, another poke would have already landed. And by the time 8-10 pokes have landed, I can no longer even try to talk. I just dissolve into helpless laughter, meekly thrashing around, my mind already giving up but in a complete state of panic as more and more tickly pokes continue to land on random spots on my sides.

@AshleyC What do you have to say about this?

I would say that the pokes make me jump so high and screech if done by surprise. It’s happened to me at work a few times. FYI I’m loud lol

Lots and lots and lots of pokes. That eventually turn into wriggling fingers slowly exploring the spaces in-between the ribs.
Then as the hysterical breathless laughs subside, a few moments of reflection, then more delicate pokes begin again and again.

I agree with this. With a good precise poke, you got the lee jumping and they don't have time to process being tickled in that spot before they get poked on another spot. And doing one finger pokes can be more reaction inducing because with using your entire hands, the lee will feel the big area that the ler can reach, but with one finger, the lee is concentrating on that one spot and it can feel more intense

Sounds like you had a fun time 😂 Repeated pokes with someone holding my arms would get strong reactions from me

That's true! A lot of lers though would not realize this!

I don't poke because many people equate poking to jabbing. A lot of techniques you can't really commit to unless you're sort of frequently tickling to find out what's more effective. Hence, light squeezing and sensing "where the tickles are" is my technique.
