Policemen in Heaven

St Peter is standing at heaven's gate when a man walks up.

"Welcome to heaven my son. What did you do with your life?"

"I was a policeman," he responded.

"What kind of policeman?" St Peter asked.

"I was a vice officer. I kept dangerous narcotics out of the hands of kids."

"Wonderful my son, welcome to heaven. Pass through the gates."

A few moments later a second man walks up.

"Welcome to heaven my son. What did you do with your life?"

"I was a policeman," he responded.

"What kind of policeman?" St Peter asked.

"I was a traffic officer. I kept the roads and highways safe for travelers."

"Well done. Pass through the gates into paradise."

A few moments later a third man walks up.

"Welcome to heaven my son. What did you do with your life?"

"I was a policeman," he responded.

"What kind of policeman?" St Peter asked.

"I was a Military Policeman, Sir."

"Excellent my son, I have to leave for a bit, watch the gate will you?"

My version...

A fireman, a paramedic and an MOD Police Officer get to the Pearly Gates. St. Pete says "You've got to justify getting in boys." Paramedic says,
"I've saved lots of lives, I drove an ambulance for thirty years.
"Very good, in you go" says Pete.
Fireman says "I served as a fire and rescue officer for thirty years. I took part in lots of emergencies."
"In you go too mate" agrees The Rock.
The MOD Policeman draws himself up to full height and says proudly, "I served in the MOD Police for thirty give years."
"Thank God for that!" exclaims Pete, "Look after this gate for ten minutes while I go for a crap, will you?"


The joke is, that Military Policemen (and in the case of my joke, Ministry of Defence Police officers) don't actually work hard for a living, getting up to their necks in shit like other emergency staff do, they stand on the gates of military establishments and check ID passes all day, while watching the gate go up and down. It's not actually true, they work hard for a living as well. But members of other police forces sometimes look down on them for being glorified security guards. Not true, but a funny and temporally pervading stereotype.
