Poll-NBA Champion In 2008-2009

With the start of the NBA season tonight, I figured I would start a poll asking forum members what team they think will win the 2008-2009 NBA Championship.

My choice for this poll is the LA Lakers. Yes, I know the Celtics won 66 games, and are the defending champs, but my reasons for choosing the Lakers are several fold. The top two reasons, of course, are Kobe Bryant, and Coach Phil Jackson. Jackson has nine titles, and Kobe three titles, but they havent won since 2002. This team won 57 games last year, and went to the Finals. I think this year they will be hungry to take the next step.

Additionally, last year the Lakers lost center Andrew Bynum for half of the season. If Bynum is healthy all year, while he's not Shaq, he does give the Lakers a presence in the middle.

Finally, this year the Lakers will have scorer Paul Gasol for the whole season. He will make a difference, giving the Lakers another scoring option in addition to Kobe.

So, that's my pick, Lakers will be the 2008-2009 NBA Champs.

just a suggestion i think you should add a couple more teams to the mix. i definitely think the cavs, hornets and rockets need to be added (i think all 3 of these teams have a better shot then the magic).

Not being a real big sports fan, I'll put a vote in for the New Orleans Hornets. Seems like a young team ready for a chance to shine.

finals will be Hornets vs. 76ers..... that is if Elton Brand is completely healthy

Keep an eye on the BLAZERS if Oden can stay healthy for more than 20 minutes! When this team is clicking on all cylinders I don't think anyone can beat them. The hard part is keeping that sort of play consistant.

Oden sure looks like Walton or Sam Bowie, always always injured. Not a good sign for Blazers, he is very young yet always hurt. What is he gonna be like 3 yrs from now???
